Also.. I can only assume that you have been upgrading your gear... I was speaking to someone the other day who was level 8 and still using the starter silver sword! Crazy! Make sure you're upgrading your gear, getting the oils and potions unlocked and so on.. then as all above have said, apply the spectre oil and use Yrden to slow them down.

With dodging, I will always use the quick dodge (not roll) when facing up against a single or even multiple enemies if they are all in a single direction but when you get surrounded, get out of there fast with a roll then go back to the quick dodge again.

I try to keep up with upgrading armor/weapons as much as I can. I finally got past that Baron/wraith quest. I was ignoring the quick dodge and rolling way too much, That was how I was getting in trouble with getting trapped and mobbed. Plus also I levelled up once, found newer armor in the meantime, and used the armor/weapon enhanment at the blacksmith. It was so easy this time I don't know how I spent an hour last night getting tossed around like a mouse toy in a room full of cats.

Suffice it to say that there's no such thing as being over-prepared in this game. (I've seen people say that roll is superior to the quick-dodge, but I believe the reverse is more true simply because the quick dodge DOESN'T COST STAMINA.)

I'm starting to use it more. The animation time is shorter, and it doesn't take me too far away from the enemy to get another quick strike in.
Try Axii, it will stun lock the wraith 2 hits roll rinse repeat... this is a cheesy method, but :D it works. Use Tawny Owl and Swallow keep moving abuse the stuns.
I find dodge more effective than rolling. there seems to be an invincibility frame with the dodge.

yellownumber5: I've been getting my ass handed by wraiths in two separate level six quests I am attempting right now. I am a level ten at the time too. One or two wraiths I can handle, but the problem happens when I encounter three or more. Part of the wraiths maneuvers is to disappear and reappear near you and immediately strike you. This is fine when it is just one or two wraiths I can anticipate the attack and dodge. But when it is three or more, I will dodge the first disappearing attack, then right as I come out of dodge, another wraith will appear right where I come out of the dodge and attack me. I get stuck in the knock-back animation while another reappears, attacks, restarting the knock-back animation. This chains till I am dead within five seconds even with a full health bar.

Anyone have some tricks other than Spectre oil, quen, and yrden? One of these level six quests is a story line, and it makes me start a whole lengthy section, including cinematics, over from the beginning each time because it won't let me save between each wave of wraiths.

I'm also trying to figure out too if spectres have an attack that instantly drains you down to one hitpoint. There are a few times I swear I have a full health bar, then all of a sudden I randomly die. This happens with any spectre, high or low level, that I have encountered.
I can handle about 6 wraiths at once on level 10.

1) Oil your silver sword with necrophage oil. Periodically check to see if it needs more oil as the battle ensues. 20 hits == needs more oil.

2) Start out casting Quen as soon as you can, then try to strategically cast Yrden in a central spot free of debris or crap around the edges you can get hung up on.

3) Wait for or draw the wraiths to you, and as they get close, hit the inventory key and drink the potions: Swallow, Thunderbolt and Tawny whatever it's called.

4) Try to attack the wraiths within the Yrden trap whenever possible.

5) Button mash attack and dodge, while doing dodge in a circular/triangular pattern trying to stay within Yrden.

6) Re-cast Quen, Yrden as needed, add more oil to your sword as needed.

Also is a good idea to have great armour and sword as high as possible, and you can upgrade them before battle as well for additional oomph.

If you have the Wraith Decoction and are going up against a shit tonne of wraiths take that one first too, it will auto-cast Quen for you when you get nailed hard.
Yup.. Quick-Dodge should be the default strategy for not only avoiding hits but also getting behind the enemies for critical hits. Rolls should only be used to get out of a situation like being surrounded or an AoE ability/spell. It's also helpful to do a roll so you can get a bit of distance, then wait for the stamina to recharge after the roll and use a sign. Using a sign when you're right on top of an enemy usually ends badly :)
