Game pauses ever 15 seconds or so for 5 seconds. unplayable!

Yes I know I am using a dual core but was able to tweek my system and it ran fine untill I updated to 1.07, tweeked some more and ran fine till 1.08, tweeked some more and ran so so till the latest update. Pauses even in inventory screen. Plan on deleting the game and starting over with manual settings for update so I can back out if needed.

It took me over 4 hours to install the game off DVDs then 3 days for the patch to run it. (700k download speed). I have spent a total of 5 days putting in patchs and no telling how much time trying to fix it to run right. I don't have the money to invest in a new system.

Is there any way to roll back the up dates without completly uninstalling the game and starting over?

Going back to playing Far Cry 4 (running a pirate patch for dual core).
Guess I'm just getting too old to understant why a update patch makes things worse rather than better.

Hope for some helpful info in the next 48 hours or will go ahead and delete.

Be forewarned, you'll want to check your save status. I don't believe a save marked as "1.08" or whatever can be loaded again by an earlier version of the game.
Well there you go, the game's minimum system requirements are quad core CPUs and you only use a dual core. That's why it's not working properly. If your PC meets the minimum reqs at least, this won't happen anymore.

Sorry guy but I have to say this. There is a reason why there are minimum system requirements for a game. Perhaps you could get the game working with a less strong PC but it is luck if this happens. As said before from Santiago if you would at least meet the minimum reqs this problem wouldn't happen.

You could try this and hope that it will help a bit:

If I read this right, then your copy worked well at 1.06?
Well, if you downloaded your patches without Galaxy, using "only" the GOG downloader, then you still might have the first patch, the one that actually made W3 playable (1.01/1.02)?

Why - when I look at my GOG account, the install files show 1.06 as version number, followed by two downloads named "1.02>1.08.3".
So if you still got the very first version of 1.02, it might work to download the 1.06 files, and then the small patch (the 1.02 ONLY).
This would leave you with version 1.06 installed, a version that - like you pointed out - worked on your machine.

Best of luck...
Download folder is empty and no option in Galaxy.

I know now that I should have turned off auto update which would have allowed me to roll back.

The only option I see is to uninstall and start over. It just means several days at 700K DSL to get back to the game.

I'm 1 mile from 10meg speed with centurylink but can only get a max of 700K.

(for some reason I can't seem to paste onto this form)

Guess it's time to go back to reading books and playing ZORK with my trusty Z80 CPU.

I've got 360 k, living in more rural areas certainly has some "small" downsides :).

But as a rule: stay away from Galaxy, at least for now.

And, concerning your machine (and if W3 really is no option): GOG has a lot of classic RPG's that might be worth your time...
Is this a dual-core solution that would work for you?

If you disable auto updates you should be able to roll back. I know it gives me the option when I do, and I've always had auto update enabled. Also, get a modern machine with a processor. Don't bitch about the game not working right when your PC doesn't even meet min specs.

I have this same problem and have been looking for a fix for a long time. Tried almost everything at this point, but I never saw this suggestion. Have to try it when I get home.

If nothing else, thanks for posting it. :)

No prob.

Here is another dual-core fix link I noticed while looking for mods. This looks like it might be the same as the previous one, but seems to have more complete instructions/some parts done for you.

Thanks for the link, going to try it after I update.

I uninstalled the game and put the first uptate to run on. Only pauses once in a while but it is playable. Now I am updating to 1.6 but will take about 3 days at 700K. Set updates to manual so I can rollback if there is a problem.

To the posters that say "just get a new machine" :

I have some physical problems and RPGs give me some escape from my restricted mobility. I don't know what it is
like to have extra cash to invest in a new machine. I made quite a few sacrifices to get the one I have now and I'm stuck with it for a few more years. Turn off your electronics for a few days, sit in a chair and stare out the window. Then tell
me what you "Bitch" about!
