Encountered the same problem. Haven't finished "The Mystery of the Byways Murders" quest yet in my case.
I just finished part of the "Following the Thread" quest and need to return to Novigrad, but it crashes when I try to fast travel :(

Fast travel to Ard Skelid (e.g. Kaer Trolde) and then to Novigrad. It worked for me this way.

I tried this, but it did not work. Still gives me a crash to desktop.

It might be related to the quest 'Following the Thread', which forces me to go back to Novigrad. My old save, in which I did not encounter Hammond, I can still fast travel to Novigrad and so on, so I guess I will have to wait for the patch and avoid progressing the said quest for now.

In the same boat as you. Same quest and everything. If I load up a save before encountering Hammond everything works fine. Hope a patch can fix the problem or there's some kind of work around. (Not that I don't have a lot of other quests to do)

Hmm... maybe when you'll mark other quest and then fast travel to Ard Skelig. If land version didn't work then try it by a boat - sail it a little then open map and set some anchor near Novigrad as target.

I've got the same problem but I've managed it that way.

Fast travel was the same in Skyrim,it will take a while to fix.

Encountered this for the first time.

I can confirm Murders in the Byeways is still not finished.

My fix: Fast travel to main Skellige island, use "crossroads" fast travel marker then to Novigrad, Velen, etc.

Traveling by boat did seem to work. Not sure if I want to risk glitching the game though. I don't want to always have to travel back and forth by boat. I'll experiment a bit more.

EDIT: After traveling back to novigrad/velen via boat, I was then able to fast travel by land without any problems so far. Still going to keep a backup save game though.

I have the same bug as well.

I had CTDs traveling outside of Skellige (destination didn't matter - White Orchard, Vezima, Novigrad/Velen - all CTD) after completing the quest The Price of Honor (quest had another bug as well). Loaded an earlier save, skipped the quest - no crashing. Tried doing the quest again - crashes after it again.

So in my case it was The Price of Honor, check if you have done it as well and load an earlier save.

I also encountered this issue. On top of it crashing when trying to fast travel to Velen, it also crashed when I tried to load a previous checkpoint still back in Velen.

I had a manual save slot a little further back from Velen, and I was able to load that. Once I loaded it, I was able to load my checkpoint save in Velen.

My eventual getting back involved loading a save from Velen, then loading a save in Trottheim. I went from Trottheim to the Crossroads, then tried fast travelling back to Velen. The game crashed, but when I loaded the save back, I fast traveled from Crossroads to Rannvaig, then from Rannvaig to Woesong Bridge in White Orchard. This work, and I was able to travel back to Velen from there.

Hopefully this gets fixed soon. I'm glad I found a work around, but it was still a pain in the butt in what otherwise has been a fantastic game (Bad Nvidia driver crashes aside)

I've had this since the 28th of may on June 5th CDPR emailed me to say they are aware of the bug and are looking into it....... it's now the 28th of June and still no fix for the CTD on fast travel from Skellige to the main land and I an;t refund the game because i have over 100hours play time ... so i can't play and can;t refund only hope is CDPR fix this crap some time soon.

1.04 made the bug 1,05 didn't fix it and neither did 1.06...the problem I have is that the red engine runs out of memory as stated in the crash dump files ... but checking my system my RAM CPU and GPU aren't even at full load more like 50-60% load.

My game has now developed this bug. I am on the quest "Final Preparations" but had travelled to Skellige to pick up the mastercrafted Cat School armour. After finding the diagrams I travelled to the village of Trottheim to fast travel and am now getting 100% CTD trying to fast travel out of Skellige.

Appears to be something in the vicinity of this village that causes the bug, as the majority of people experiencing this see it in relation to the quest "Following the Thread", which requires Geralt to visit Trottheim.

Several people have had success using boat fast travel or travelling from Crossroads waypoint to waypoints in White Orchard or the palace, no luck for me here.

Hope this is fixed soon as I cannot progress the game currently :(
