Pretty self explanatory. I tried various kinds of dyes on various elements of my armor (master feline gear) with no luck.
The inventory shows the icon of the dye on the given equipment piece, but the color remains the same. Couldn't find anything on that online

Wildly helpful. I'm not using any mods and I already guessed it's a bug. Point is, that doesn't solve anything

It sounds like you're only using the inventory preview mode ('E' key). You have to apply the colour for it to show out of the inventory.

Then if you're not using any mods the only logical conclusion is that your installation is corrupt.
