What are these false claims by GOG of DRM free games? Why can't I add this to my StEAM library for convience?

For one, you do not need Steam.
Second, you do not need Galaxy.

All you need is your GOG account.
Just you and your game - isn't this fantastic?
(provided you are able to download/install the basic files , the patches, and then the DLC'S, if you want them)

Convenient enough?

False claims? Once downloaded you do not need any kind of verification to install and play. Even if you bought it on steam you don't need the client to be able to run the game at all. You can't just add it to your Steam library because you didn't buy it on Steam.

false claims...lolz, a quick search would have found you a lot of information & guides on how to add the Witcher 3 to your Steam library.

the witcher3.exe is located
GOG Games > The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt > bin > x64 > witcher3.exe

after you select add game to Steam library on the window that opens you need to click the "browse" button & then search your files for the witcher3.exe

select the witcher3.exe & click the "open" button

now in the Steam window the witcher3.exe should be at the very top of program list, make sure the box next to the witcher3.exe has a tick in it & click the button "add selected programs"

the Witcher 3 is now in your Steam library

you can add any game installed on your PC to your Steam library regardless of where you purchased the game from

Actually I wondered not HOW, but WHY anybody would tie herself/himself to Steam and/or Galaxy.

I like Galaxy even though it's a little feature light at the moment. I'm mostly OK with Steam now that they offer refunds, as they are finally realizing the customers have value as well.

Problem is, there are no exe files for witcher 3 in gog/witcher3 folder, and I can only launch the game through opening the gog app, and I need another game launching app like I need naother nipple.

If there was no .exe file you would not be able to play the game.
Please take the time to read the ALL the replies as i give a simple explanation on where the .exe file is & how to add The Witcher 3 to Steam

If you still having trouble finding the witcher3.exe try using Windows Explorer & search "witcher3.exe" then in the list of search results right click on "witcher3.exe" & select "Open file location"

Steam is convenient, yes, but it is also drm - so drm-free means "no steam" too. I dont see a problem here.

Everyone including the topic creator are misinformed about what's going on.

There are 2 problems in this thread

Problem 1:
I don't think the topic creator realized that they created a topic that says the WItcher 3 is advertised as DRM free and that's not true at all.

Problem 2: (How this happened is beyond me)
The people replying in this thread think the topic creator is asking how to add a non-Steam game to his Library and have it actually be part of it?


I'll sum this up for people
You cannot advertise a game as being DRM free while selling a version of that game through a service such as Steam, and then still advertise the game as being DRM free. The fact that Steam has been added into the equation negates the game being DRM free. In order for a game to actually be DRM free, it cannot be sold on ANY services at all.

As Long as Steam or any service is in the equation, then The Witcher 3 is not DRM free and should not be advertised as such.

If you buy the game on Steam the only purpose the Steam client(or any other client) has is to act as a reliable & trustworthy place to download the game files from, once the game is installed you do not need to use the Steam client to run & play the game therefore the game is sold as advertised...DRM Free.

I suggest you take some time to read up on what DRM is as you seem a little confused.

See this is the problem with the uneducated morons on this, and many other forums. They're totally clueless on what makes something wind up being categorized a being a specific way.

First of all I'm not really sure how DocDoomII doesn't understand that any game bought through Steam, REQUIRES Steam to install, launch, and play. There is no way to legally use a game bought through Steam, without Steam

Secondly I'm not sure how both DocDoomII and mepe_ruseAfter are completely oblivious to the fact that something cannot be categorized as being DRM free, if it is being sold on a service. If you purchased the game through Steam, then how is it DRM free?
