Anyone not having done this quest, don't read on if you don't want spoilers.
So, I've recently done this quest & thought it quite strange. Firstly coz it seems like you're in for a big fight, but then go into dialogue. Secondly, coz it seemed obvious to me to go for the peaceful option, which I did, & am happy to live with the outcome. However, for curiosity's sake, I redid it & chose to fight him instead. Well, that didn't go well at all. Sheez, he's one tough mutha! :)
I was wondering, if anyone did beat him, did you get a cave troll liver from him? That's the only thing that would have made it worth killing him imo, coz I need one. Also, I was wondering whether most players chose the peaceful option or went the violent way? Personally I felt sorry for him.
Apart from the liver thing, I'm interested in how others approached this quest. :)

I'm for peaceful way. After all that troll just protected his home and he gave a clear warning to miners before.

I killed him. He'll one shot you with some of his attacks, even if you have quen up, so you have to fight a perfect fight against him. That said, he's a troll, so as long as you have the ability that prevents you from taking damage while dodging (to get out of the way of his charge), his attacks are pretty easy to avoid. He dropped the usual troll stuff, plus a trophy and a mutagen. He should drop a liver, but I think there's a random element to whether that drops from a troll or not.

There is a troll in a cave on the south-eastern shore of the lake that is north of Kaer Morhen that is an easier fight and might also drop a liver.

Thanx for the feedback. So, we're 3 to 1 in favour of 'letting it ride' so far, which is part of why I thought it a bit odd coz unless you're playing a aloof/cruel/nasty Geralt, I think most of us would choose to let it ride. It's probably indicative of my prejudices but I figured any new DLC quests would just be a straightforward boss fight, no options, so well done CDPR again! :)
Thanx for that info on the Cave Troll Wendigo, & respect due! I had a couple of attempts at fighting him, died both times. My heart wasn't in it tho. I'm due to go to Kaer Morhen soon, so I'll look out for that cave.

I totally beat his ass down like a little bitch. Screw peace, trolls suck! Human master race! :)

I will admit that it was a bit of a challenging fight and I used up just about every bomb I had that might remotely be useful against him. For the most part the bombs did not do much damage though. In the end the way I defeated him was keeping the cauldron or whatever it is in the middle of the cave in between him and me. When he ran at me on the left I moved to the right always keeping this piece of cover between us. I used quen and yrden at appropriate times, and I blasted him with igni when I could, and I potioned myself up until my veins were pure black and popping out of my face severely. He got a right sword whipping from hell for quite some time but I eventually mopped the floor with his ass.

I have no idea what loot he dropped because I find it too tedious to look at the loot drops 99% of the time because there is so much loot in the game, it'd take another extra 100 hours to finish the game to read all of the loot each time. :)

I let the troll near Oxenfurt live and brought him some cans of paint, and I let 2 or 3 other trolls live in some other cave somewhere through negotiative dialogue (the ones that stole the shoes and the shoemaker), but I got annoyed by how stupid and bold they are and some are aggressive and instead of pitying them I started crushing and extinguishing them at every opportunity even if it was totally unnecessary. DIE TROLLS DIE!!!!!

Love your maniacal laugh, but if you haven't done 'Skellige's most Wanted' yet, the last laugh may be on you. :)

The 1st time I got oneshotted in the very first fight. So I chose the peaceful option and I'm happy with it.

Being peaceful can be sometimes problematic especially with some alchemy ingredients but I'm happy with it. :)

If possible, when dealing with trolls I try to go for peacefull option. Mainly because they are pretty hilarious, and if you actually spend some time around them and listen to they dialogues/lines you can have a good laugh.

IMHO Dijkstra guard-troll is one of the funniest NPC in the game... and there we have the idea of "Errant troll", who's grandmaster of Skelige Fight's Club

For troll liver, there's quite a lot of "wild" trolls scattered in various caves.

I killed the troll. It would have been a break in character if I let him live.

I found it harder to get the nekker hearts needed for potions (without farming) than to get troll livers.

Also kudos to CDPR for changing a few alchemy formulas so you only need to harvest 2 ekimmara hides.

Naw, I completed Skellige's Most Wanted yesterday also. That was pretty good as well. The "little one" got away of course, but the others all how shall we say... They all went on to meet up with the aforementioned troll from Missing Miners. :)

Yup, Dijkstra's troll is one that I didn't kill, forgot about him. :)

I also fought the fist fighting troll in Skellige yesterday though and beat his arse rather quickly. I thought for sure he'd maul me bigtime but I went to town on him, he was too big and slow compared to a human. I found fist fighting the bear and the troll to be easier than any of the human opponents TBH simply because they move too slow and spend too much time monologuing roars and anger. While they're roaring I'm punching the crap out of them. :)
