Does the different difficulty settings make it harder or just make enemies bullet sponges? What I mean is more varied attacks, better pack AI, need to use their weakness more ect.?

Or is it the Skyrim style bullet sponge? If the former I'll keep it up. If the latter I'm switching it down.
I'm not sure.. I think the latter.. but haven't heard anything official. Additionally the two higher difficulty tiers won't allow vitality regen without using items (food, drink, potions etc) even outside of combat... although there is a skill in there you can select to have vitality increase 10 points per second.. but not sure if that applies with the higher difficulty or not.
From what I've seen they just have more HP and deal more damage. They did seem more aggressive, but that could have just been from me not wanting to get hit due to the increase in damage.

I'm playing it on the highest difficulty, IMO 'Normal' is way to easy, Hard is a little better and the Highest difficulty is just about right. It can be a little rough, but I'll chalk that up to inexperience.

I enjoy normal because I am in it more for the story but want a little challenge but you're right, it is feeling a little too easy. I might crank it up to the 2nd hardest before too long.

I'll see what the griffin fight is like and judge it off that.

I beat Witcher 2 on Dark difficulty. I'm finding this awful controls a big turn off. So stiff and clunky. Geralt is constantly not selecting the right enemy. Or I have to fight the target selector to get him to fight the guy I want. Ugh pissing me off so much.

How did they mess up this bad on controls?

Edit
UGH Alt + Direction to dodge? REALLY guys? Fucking really? The slow boat like turning I can't turn. The camera is too sensitive or too slow with a mouse. I've got a constant pop up message "M+KB detected switching controls". The jittering stuttering bad optimization is only making things worse as I try and aim. Alt + attack for heavy attacks? Is someone fucking serious?

I have the same problem with pop up message M+KB detected switching controls all the time. And also ESC is not working properly if I want to exit from ingame menu (like Alechemy, Maps, Inventory, etc...). Also I dont know why Inventory, Alechemy, Maps and others are closed for key mapping (because I want to have inventory and Maps on my mouse and it is not possible).

On the other hand game looks really nice :)

About alt + direction, double tap on direction is equal ... and way more effective in combat, as well as mouse button for object use and sign ... actually find this new system great , really, but i still have reflexe from TW2 like "E" to use sign or ctrl to open quick menu ^^
Is the Death March difficulty like the Insane difficulty from The Witcher 2 (save gets deleted if you die), or is it the equivalent of Dark difficulty? I want to play at the most difficult setting, but I'm not hardcore enough to play perma-death mode :P

It's like dark, but without exclusive items it seems. It's not perma-death for sure, because otherwise I would be replaying game for like 1000 times already -_-

no perma death in death-march, nothing "impossible" just demanding to prepare fight, had good potions ... and don't let opponents surround you
There's just something not as fun about Witcher 3's higher difficulty settings. The game is so long the last thing I need is bullet sponge tediousness added on top.

Indeed.

I think I'll play Hard but turn down to Normal in the occasional tough fight or two but in general have Hard activated, I like the idea that I can't rely on healing during meditation.
You guys realize that health doesn't regenerate on any of the difficulty settings, right? I'm on the easiest setting and the only time my health regenerates is if I eat, or level up. I had to fight a boss with almost no health left and I happened to have run out of food too, so it took me forever with lots of dodging and signs, but I managed it!
The main difference is that on easy/normal you regain health if you meditate. On higher levels you have to eat/drink to regen health.

I also heard that on higher levels you get less XP so you level slower. Not confirmed by devs as far as I know.
