Hi, i notice that after 1.04 patch, AA is not working, i dont see any difrence between off and on
too much shimmering and flickering i cant stand that, graphics looks very grainy now....
ive completed main story and my save is 1.04, i cant rollback to 1.03 cuz i will lose so much time

Make sure the sharpness filter is set to low. High makes everything look quite grainy. The Witcher uses postprocessing AA called MSAA ( similar to FXAA just better quality ) so if you have it enabled even in your GPU control panel it wont use hardware AA. Benefits of MSAA are giving you AA without such a huge performance hit. Check your GPU control panel and set the AA to application controlled and see if that works.

I did made a mistake in what I told you in that they use MSAA. It is used on hairworks but the other AA is apparently a proprietary one made by CDPR. I said MSAA mistakenly what I meant was SMAA but still they are using a different technique than SMAA I believe. My apologies I've used these filters in my Unity work its just been awhile. Either way what you need to know is that they use a post processing filter not hardware based AA. If you want to use hardware to eliminate the jagged lines an option you can try is to disable the post processing AA in the witcher settings and use DSR ( Dynamic Super Resolution ) in your Nvidia control panel. Try with and without the post processing AA and see which you like better. DSR will take from your performance quite a bit though so test and see what works for you!

yes, DSR will be amazing but i have single GTX 970, at 1080p DSR x4 is only one viable option, everything else is causing weird distorion, maybe cuz it cant map pixels 4:1

and something is wrong with AA in W3 after v1.04 patch, i dont remember that ugly shimmering/flickering on doors, wooden bridges etc etc...and grass looks very grainy...

im dowloading atm Witcher3 v1.0 and i will update to v1.02, after that i will post comparison shots...

It's strange this is happening to you I noticed a huge visual boost when I upgraded to 1.04. Do you have your anisotropic filtering maxed? Any chance you have a screenshot to show the effect you're having? Also some effects that will give you a boost so you can up other things. I find motion blur is something that most people can live without. Also the vignette filter isn't overly important either. Should give ya an extra few FPS if you disable those.

SweetFX offers both FXAA and SMAA and they are post-processing effects so you combine them with MSAA.

I would recommend 2xMSAA then perhaps some SMAA but not too much to minimize the blur effect. To compensate for the blur effect you could force 16xAF to at least make sure textures are crispy and perhaps some LumaSharpen (it's more precise in SweetFX rather than off, light or high) and possibly avoid DOF and motion blur (unless you like them of course).

According to my few tests but considerate reading online, regular AA techniques such as MSAA or SSAA have a better performance-to-quality ratio than any downsampling technique but it might depend on hardware setup, game engine and settings.

I'm with you! Something happened after 1.04 and now that has broken anti-aliasing for me. Confused. I'm not interested in modding / sweet fx / nvidia control panel tweaking at this time simply because the AA was there and gone within the same version /shrug
