I have found a loooot of threads with people complaining about similar problems, but most them differ from mine.
While many people are having instant crashes, black screens, flickering etc when they're trying to launch their game, my game simply does nothing, when i'm clicking the "Play"-button in galaxy. There is nothing happening, no task, no process.

I purchased the retail-version. So i installed the game via all 4 dvds (there is no option to install the game without galaxy), launched it and Galaxy starts. I then download the needed Release-Patch via galaxy (i also tried out the release patch from play.the-witcher.com).

I tried everything i found in every thread with a slightly related problem.
- installed and started everything as admin
- turned off all firewall and virus-scanners
- disabled windows 7 uac
- updated the nvidia driver
- tried uninstalling galaxy and removing its .dll and also its services by cmd
- rebootet a lot

I am now thinking about directly downloading the game at gog.com (to avoid galaxy) , but its pretty large and i can only download with 700KBit/s, so, yeah... Do you think that might help me out and is worth a try? Any other solutions are of course, very much appreciated.

My Specs:
i5-3570K
Windows 7 64Bit
8GB RAM
NVidia GTX 660 Ti

I installed everything on a 128GB Samsung SSD.

Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance :)
No one...? :(
A friend of mine tried with the collector version and his galaxy sounded different than mine and it occured he had some problems as well.
He finally downloaded the gog version via galaxy and it seems ok for now but, yes, according you have a restricted dl speed....thats a pain in the ass.

Same issue for me, although I've found that if you just upgrade to patch 1.02 it works, after 1.03 game wont launch?
Game is running now.
A fresh windows 7 installation did the trick.
After i was finally able to install the game without galaxy (with the downloaded files), i was fighting another error.
Whenever i had tried to start the game, i got an error: "application error 0xc00007b".
After a bit of googling, i found out this error was mostly related with:

- the microsoft dot net framework
- the microsoft visual c++ redistributable packages
- 64/32Bit issues

I tried a lot of things, but in the end the fresh windows installation solved all problems.
just reinstalled windows, installed nvidia graphics driver, game ran.
The dot net and visual c++ frameworks, direct x were installed by the game, i think. I didn't install them myself.

I installed the game without galaxy and updated everything manually. Never ran into any issues since.
Wish you the best.
Glad to hear that it's working for you! I wonder if maybe it was a corrupted game file somewhere, and not so much as the OS. Next time you're having issues, try checking the integrity of the game files before taking the time to do an OS wipe - those are a real pain.

In my case, unfortunately, the fix was to re-install the whole game.
