Please remove the automation or make it an option. At the very least increase the duration after encountering an enemy before auto sheathing happens.

I don't want to create another topic and my problem is sort of related to this one:

Well this post is no more valid since i was wrong about stuff, i am changing the description.

And yeah, sheathing is not a very good or useful mechanic.

cabooselol22: A lot of the time when an enemy is 10 feet too far, Geralt will auto-sheathe which interrupts my attack and it's pretty annoying and even takes out of the immersion a bit.

I go to attack an enemy and he sheathes his weapon then instead punches them, which of course does less damage and can leave me open. Please add an option to turn it off or remove it, what's the point in being able to manually sheathe if he does it on his own. Though I noticed sometimes he won't, not sure why. Also, even little amount of time it takes him to draw his weapon can be a bit too long when you're trying to parry.
completely agree with the OP,

let me as the player decide when i sheath and draw my weapon.

I remember some really bad timing as i ran up to a huge bar and hit it twice in the nose with my fists before i rolled away in a WTF moment. Stalking ghouls and such is extremely annoying.

Give us a toggle option Auto Sheath On or OFF !!!!!!!

Lol, yes. Damn you! Try living in Canada, where our proximity to you guys forces as to learn both systems of measure!

I agree, I'd prefer no auto-sheathing, though I've never really found it to be too much of an issue. One annoying thing that happened was I was fighting in a "crime scene" environment and dodging enemies by pressing the "A" button. Well, occasionally I'd press "A" near one of the clues and Geralt would sheathe his sword to make some comment or another, all while I'm still in combat!

So my problem is that Geralt is an idiot, by that i mean that he is automatically picking his steel sword for animals.
Example:
I am fighting with big bear and he is running around and at some point he leaving "combat area" so Geralt is sheathing his sword, bear is coming back to kick my a** and Geralt is automatically picking up his STEEL sword instead of the silver one.
Am i the only one who has this issue?
Does anyone actually know which sword is best to use for non-monster animals? Maybe steel IS the right sword.

I think he meant that vice versa, red health indicates steel sword and silver health, well silver sword.

However, I encountered Drowners around bandits and even though I wanted to fight the Drowners first, Geralt drew his Steel sword instead so that was kind of annoying. I haven't had much issue with what sword to draw (although I'd also like an option to turn the automation for that off too, would require a tad more skill). I found the sheathing to be the most annoying

Steel: humans and non-humans (animals)
Silver: monsters

I think it said that during a loading screen but I remember seeing it in the game or perhaps during a tooltip popup.

Yeah i just learned that they changed stuff around (for no apparent reason) In Witcher 3.
In the first two Witchers silver sword was for every enemy that was not human, in W3 they changed it so silver sword is now used only for magical enemies.

I think there might have been some, don't remember. But lore wise, Steel was always for anything that wasn't magical, so it's not like they changed that too much

I've had problems with this, though only twice I think. I sometimes circle a camp so I can attack an archer without being surrounded. A couple times Geralt automatically drew his sword and automatically sheathed it, while circling. Then, when I attacked, he didn't draw his sword again, rather he opted to punch ~five armed bandits.

On a side note, I sometimes have issues with the z-targeting. Every once in a while I will dodge my targeted enemy, then swing my sword, but Geralt turns and swings in the opposite direction of the enemy I have targeted. I noticed this happen multiple times on wolves; I don't recall if it has happened against other enemies.

Man, I've been having issues with this too. I actually died twice fighting the griffin because I punched him in the face not realizing I had sheathed my weapon. Its also given me some issues fighting with wolves as others have mentioned. Hopefully, they'll give us some options in a future patch.

The auto-sheathe happens when you aren't in combat anymore which I don't mind even tho it did got me killed quite often, what I don't like is what causes you to get out of combat so easily is that mobs have a certain leash range (leash as in a certain distance in which a mobs reset/runs back to their spot) they will leash back to their spot thus losing combat and it seems really small I tested it a few times to manipulate how many ghouls follow me so I can fight em one at a time, it sucks cuz it ruins the flow and I'll have to chase em while they are running back. Only good news is that I guess their hp doesn't reset.

I'm not that far into the game at all barely doing the griffon contract, so I have no idea how this plays out on bigger tougher mobs

Auto drawing the weapon is also annoying. Sometimes when you try to run away, if the enemy get close he stops and draws his sword all without left clicking or pressing 1 or 2. Thanks for making me stop when I wanted to tumble and run....
