TW2 is for sure a very impressive game. The cinematic is top-notch, acting is good and it's visually gorgeous. On these points, it's infinitely better than the first one, which suffered from rather disjointed dialogues.

But OH MY GOD what is this atrocious, horrible, hideous interface ?
For a game that was supposed to be PC-exclusive, it's been certainly GUTTED with extremely console-like design that is just a pain in the arse.
Let's see...
- First, the design is downright ugly. Big, flashy icons that just seems to be taken right from a XBOX. Where are the pretty, medieval-themed
- Painful on-screen selection that is very obviously designed for the approximate direction you get with a pad, and not the precise targeting from a mouse.
- Clumsy and confusing item selection, once again very obviously made for a pad, rather than the full display of TW1, which allowed to see everything in your inventory at the same time.
- Extremely scarce option pannels. At least we can tweak the config files, but there is close to zero options available in-game.

To sum it up, the interface is clearly made entirely with a pad in mind, and then slapped unto a supposedly PC exclusive game, making it very painful, not ergonomic, annoying to use and with a design completely opposed to everything else in the game.
That's already deserving a red card, and you deserve another one for claiming it would be a PC game for PC players, all the while filling it with the usual console horrors that we've seen creeping up in more and more games these times.

The saving grace is, hopefully, the content, that at least has NOT been dumbed down. But the interface is just a shame.
Well... yes.

The interface is a bit shit and if you are a lefty keyboard user the interface is actually quite retarded.

Even the patch didn't fix that.

But... and this is a big but..

Have you ever seen a console that can use uber-sampling?

What kind of console do you think would be needed to run this game on max settings?
The controls with a controller are considerably bad actually, except for movement. Really I use a controller because movement is smoother but everything else is a huge pain, specially with the analog sticks being broken inside menus since 1.1.
learn to use real keyboard and mouse controls.
True, it was surprising for a supposedly PC-centric game. But that was just supposedly.

I don't really see your point.
I'm talking about the interface and how it's horrible for a PC game. I don't really see how the 3D engine is related to this point ?
The interface is equally horrible for a console game, as I stated above. Maybe even worse. Does that make you feel better?

I mean, maybe it's just an overall bad interface...

Basic design philosophy.

As I have already said the interface is fairly useless and if you are left handed like myself completely retarded in its limitations to a degree where it is almost unusable.

However there appears to be a real schism with regards to the interface of the game and the game itself.

The interface is not just console (or shall we say controller orientated ~ since they are not the same thing) but its also 'badly' controller orientated.

Its like there were two completely different development teams.

Sure it may be bad overall, but it's still extremely "consolish" in general design - many of the problems would simply not exist if it had been developped with mouse + keyboard in mind.

Yes, I can totally feel this too.
It constantly reminds me of the bad interface system of borderlands. Clicking like a maniac on 'm', back to 'j', back to 'm' and taking ages to actually sell stuff because it's so unintiuitive.

[Big bump here and I'm sorry for that, but I'm brand new to the game and searched...]

Bought this game a long time ago in some sale, but wasn't able to run it on my old computer (got a frame per 5-10 seconds in the intro :D). With finally a new computer I was happy to fire it up and finally enjoy the follow-up to one of my best ever game experiences, the Witcher.

WTF is this?!

Lovely intro and all that, but this game's UI design screams "I was made for consoles". A terribly sad and disappointing sight :(((

The Witcher (1) was excellent for a PC game, and I hoped this would be the same, but alas not. Going through the inventory was a major pain and the journal likewise. The system is the Witcher EE was fantastic, and that is what should have been used in this game too, not this bastardised console stepchild. I'll still try to play through it of course, but it's with a disappointed and sorrow heart.

With the Witcher 3 in the works, I sincerely hope they will rectify this terrible mistake...

IIRC Witcher 3 will be a stimultaneous release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Sooo... Don't get your hopes up.

Still, I like to use a controller for my 3rd person spectacle fighters, which Witcher 2 basically turned into, so I'm fine with this.

Crud! Probably the same idiocy then :(

I miss PC games that are actually made for PCs.
Even Skyrim's absolutely awful ui is better than Witcher 2's and that's saying something.
WTB SkyUI for Witcher 2.

I too love the game, the graphic, the acting, the story, but the interface is so horrid. I do not like counsel games, and never will by an X-Box or a Nintendo, etc... The combination of auto-targeting, and using the left mouse button to interact, and attack enemies has caused issues too many times. More then a few times I tried to attack an enemy, and I suddenly find myself extinguishing torches instead.

Trying to loot items is a real chore too, because either I'm hitting the W key to move towards an item and hope the loot options appear, or I'm hitting the S key because I just move a tad bit to far. Then there are the many glowing bags, boxes etc... that I simply cannot get the game to look at for me to loot them.

I've been enduring the interface, hoping it one day becomes second nature, but it's just so clumsy, awkward and horrible.

Defiance did the same thing, releasing it on C and counsel. It's interface was pretty bad during beta too, but we worked with them, and in the end changed were made so it no longer detract from our ability to play the game. TW2 is a counsel game, and they made the computer version a clunky counsel game too... ugh
