In that save, Geralt sided with the Scoia'tael, gave Alvin to Triss, and starts TW2 with Aerondight, Gwalhir, and Raven's armor.

Weird, yours shows up perfectly - all my own saves, dating back to 2007 across three different versions do not. (DVD, EE Box-set, Steam)

is there any chance someone could send me a witcher 2 save right after the kayran fight as that battle seems to be bugged for me and i am unable to complete it

I think I'll be awaiting the first patch before playing the game - hopefully the save-games issue will be resolved by then..

Also I'm noticing a disturbing lack of performance using an ATI card.

There two issues

Issue 1 is due to differences in Folder structure.

Windows Xp:
C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\The Witcher\saves\

Windows vista and Up(NT kernel 2003)
C:\USers\UserName\My Documents\The Wicher\saves

Issue 2-I'm not certain about this since I couldn't find evidence and there's the fact that some users do have the original Witcher installed:
Registry keys
I lost ALL my witcher saves from 2008 and yet I manged to download saves using google. It took a little of experimentation and I notice The Witcher 2 will only import the files from the Ice Plains and creating a directory would be of no use.

Instead I leveraged The Witcher Demo directory to drop the downloaded save files. The Witcher 2 finally recognized the save files.

Notice that I have never installed The Witcher EE or Full game on my current computer.

I think a clarification as to why from CD Projekt would be nice.

A real patch should include the ability to Lookup through the windows folder structure for your save files. What they implemented won't cut it. It will end up generating more defects and more tickets on support. As we can all see the idea of letting the game import those files automatically wasn't good.

I could be wrong...or didn't read correctly, however I don't have Witcher installed at all but just made a path

"...\My Documents\The Witcher\saves"

and it was able to detect the saved game.

So, if you have it installed and the path isn't as follow just make one yourself and put the save file you want in and play. =)

Yep, that is what I did to get TW1 saves ready for TW2....even though I got The Witcher installed and the game won't register on this PC, so I can't even update TW1 to Enhanced Ed.

Same here, except on WinXP. I had the Enhanced Edition. My saves are in My Documents\The Witcher\saves. Bummed.

This is how I resolved my issues (Savegame not detected).

The problem seems related to the quest " The Ashes of Vizima" that stuck in a previous state also if it's completed, making the savegame not detected, i presume cause the Witcher 2 check if that quest is completed to determine if it's importable or not.

So, download The Witcher Editor, backup the save you want import, open it in TWEditor and check in the "Quest" label, if you have saved for example in the Ice Plains or after killing the Grand Master the quest "The Ashes of VIzima" should be completed ('cause you complete it entering in the cloister), if it's in the "started" quest, your savegame would not be detected.

At this point you could try two different things:

a) Load a previous savegame, for example at the beginning of the Epilogue or just before the Zeugl fight and complete the game again, hoping that quest don't bugs itself again.

b) You have to make some tricky work with the Witcher Editor

-b1) Download a savegame that's being detected.
-b2) Open it in TWEditor, "unpack" it in a directory
-b3) Make a backup of YOUR savegame (if you have not done yet)
-b4) Open it in TWEditor and "unpack" it in a directory (DON'T Close TWEditor YET!)
-b5) Copy the file "q6001_wyzim.qst" from the the unpacked WORKING savegame
-b6) Paste and overwrite the one in YOUR savegame UNPACKED directory ( b4)
-b7) "Repack" your savegame (using TWEditor) and Save.
-b8) Load YOUR savegame in The Witcher, check if it's working then SAVE IT
-b9) Exit the game, Launch TW2 and your savegame should be detected.

That was precisely my problem. The bugged "The Ashes of Vizima" quest -- which I noticed while playing the Epilogue -- was precisely the reason why my save file wasn't importing. I followed your detailed instructions and I've now fixed the issue with my new-repacked save file.

OK, I don't know about the corrupted quest you guys are talking about, but my installation didn't recognize any of the save files I have, which are numerous.

I have the gog _EE version of tw1. I'm using windows7 x64, and I'm running a standard user account. ( not an administrator )

I solved the issue by placing the save file I wanted to import, into the "C:\users\Public\Public duments\The Witcher\saves\ " folder

I'm sure this path didn't exist before installing TW2, my guess is the game created the folder for some reason.

If anyone else is experiencing the same problem, give this a try.

It may be that the issue Yakkuz talked about is what's going on here. My "Ashes of Vizima" quest isn't bugged; if yours is, that would explain why your saved games don't load.

In my installation (Windows 7 32bit)
"C:\Users\Public\Documents\The Witcher"
Should be the path where are stored TW1 Modules (Merry Witchmas, Medical Problems etc etc etc).

"C:\Users\XXX\Documents\The Witcher\saves" the one in which are stored savegames.

Howewer it worths a try, 'cause i've read that it differs from version to version.

I am having the exact same problem, the folder that my witcher 1 game saves are located, the one that is specified and is used by the EE, on the witcher 2 new game shows that there is no Witcher 1 saves file.

I am not sure what to do, however it did alow me to play through the game without the choise of new game or witcher 1 new game :D so i got to see my first playthrough via default settings :)
