There is also a new trailer, I do not know if users did check it out after getting all excited about the version 2 video. :D

senbon: I have to agree with you here, I can't believe that not more people are talking about this.
They even failed to follow the eight golden rules of interface design, which in itself is horrible.
avatar
Anarki_Hunter: The rules are but a guidelines for general user acceptance, some points in the rules still adhere in the game if you take both PC and Xbox version into account.

But anyways...the eight golder rules do not explain how to apply the missing rule in practically, and is ambiguous to use if the UI has relation to more than one set of base reference(finding it hard to find the correct term)...with no detailed requisite as to why it should adhere to specific designs. It applies marvelously for individual or minority acceptance cases, but not to the other portion.

For appearance, the UI can be modified (apart from functionality) by replacing the images.

Yes, I agree, but let me clarify what I ment:
I believe the UI lacks consistency as a whole when it comes to quality, both visually
(like the alchemy screen) and just basic responsiveness (dialog and inventory screen).
However the biggest insult (to me) is that the UI simply doesn't reduce the memory load
(e.g. you have to remember which books you have read etc.).

While the graphical interface certainly looks nice, wouldn't you agree that it lacks basic responsiveness and (some) functionality?

Pausing the game in the background (with a static render) and overlaying the UI on top of it is easier, many games use this technique nowadays.

If they need to reduce memory load, they'll need to stop showing the game in the background when the UI is put forth (or stop rendering) .
Could translate into slower transition between the Game and UI, with either a screen flash or a blank screen in-between.

(could break the immersion when one would open up the inventory during fights to apply blade oils or change equipment).

My overlook in this area might be biased...er...not much precision is needed to navigate through the menus. And using the mods fixes a bit of the required functionality. (saint)

I really enjoyed the difference the EE made in the first game, so I am really looking forward to this!!! In fact it caught me just replaying the first game and I was planning to replay The Witcher 2 -following Roche's path this time- just after beating it, but I am afraid I'll have to delay that a little bit so I enjoy the game with this 2.0 update.
Could someone outline the things/changes said in the Gametrailers video? I didn't watch it because I'm afraid to see spoilers! I haven't finished the game yet.

Edit: From gamespy (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/the-witcher-2/1188475p1.html)

The Witcher 2 Version 2.0 new features include:

New Tutorial System: designed to slowly immerse new players into The Witcher's world.

New difficult setting, Dark Mode: almost as challenging as Insane Mode, but with game saves, and a series of new "dark" items, including weapons and armor, that CD Projekt Red describes as the most powerful items in the game. The studio said Dark Mode will also alter the campaign in unique ways.

Arena Mode: The Witcher 2's take on Horde Mode, Arena will pit players against progressively difficult waves of enemies. Players will earn points with each kill that can be used toward upgrading equipment between rounds.

The Witcher 2 Version 2.0 will be available via a free update on September 29.

Human memory load was the issue - which I can agree to. While you can just remember stuff yourself, it's one of those niceties when you don't have to toggle back to another screen just to check how much of something you have already, or if something's better than something else you already have. In other words, make information redundantly available.
its fuckin free !!!! .. wtf ??? why are they doing this ?? ..

fuckin i love u cdpr .. !!!!!!!!!!!!
This is why I <3 CDPR. They do what most game developers should be doing: actual post-support. I wish them all the success am slowly converting my own friends to go out and support this game. Amazing how "updates" these days come in the form of 'sequels' amirite?
any chance that the installer files will be updated, so that we can archive the v2.0 game files?

Like I said, a "whole number" version change usually indicates changes and improvements across the board, as opposed to "decimal" version number changes, which usually herald a series of bug fixes an some re-balancing, but nothing so radical as a complete "facelift".

I'd like to know this too. I haven't had the chance to download the game yet since I just got it a couple days ago and I don't want to make my bandwidth availability too tight until the end of the month. But with the new update coming on the 29th I'd rather be able to backup an installer directly to 2.0
They aren't going to update the installer until the patching for the game has finished.

There's no point doing it now, then having to do it again when another patch is released, they'll do it once and that's it.
Does anybody know if the 2.0 version is going to include something else?
I mean, just with that it seems to be a GREAT patch, but maybe new content, or an improved engine or new missions?

I wonder if the tutorial is going to be apart of the single player campaing.

The "dark mode" sounds like it will add new content, even if it's minor stuff. I'm curious as to what they'll change. It sounds like Heart of Fury mode for IWD... harder everything, but better loot too. Which I find generally preferable to things like TW2's insane mode, which is just stupidly hard with no benefit other than bragging rights. As for the tutorial, I hope they add it to the main game, because the prologue is TERRIBLE at teaching new players what they'll need to know.
Why CDP RED hasn't told us anything about Coop? "Arena" mode seems to be perfect for such thing!
