I will be the first to admit that Witcher 2 has its merits. It is the first game that I really felt that other things are happening while Gerault does things, whether figthing or questing.

What I don't like much is all the thing that the games sets me out to do I don't want to do or \I find boring. I get enough of BS politics and intrique in real life. I don't really care about politics or kings ..... The actual monster conflicts are simplistic and not scary at all.

Instead of the Witcher 2 it should have been called Politics 101.

The Witcher, including the books, has always been about Geralt's struggle with personal problems and being sucked into a swamp of political intrigues and people trying to use him to their ends. Hunting monsters (the actual claw-and-teeth-thingys, not to be confused with humanoids) is just a secondary thing - simply because it wouldn't be enough for a deep and interesting story.

If it's any consolation to you: Geralt doesn't like politics either. He just happens to be in the middle of all that bullsh*t all the time. :)
Play the Iorveth path. It is much less about politics and more about personalities.
This series ain't for you, bub.
Personally I'd have liked if the game's story had delved more in the mythology and history of the Witcherverse: Brokilon Forest, the Elder Blood, Fate and Higher Powers, Druids and Priestesses and so on. More along the lines of Geralt's research on the Wild Hunt.

But what I got I enjoyed all the same.

The we go into Lord Of the Rings territory where the focus is on lore. Traditional fantasy stuff. I'd rather it be on morality, characters and politics myself.
I liked it how it is, Geralt is normally just a sword for hire (in the monster sense, not the mercenary sense) but his skills are important enough to have him engaged by the different factions of the world he lives in. Additionally i believe that deep down Geralt cares for the people around him, not just his friends but common villagers as well. He cares about the outcome of all the politics, because they really are important. I do wish there was a little more lore thrown into the mix, but it is true it was mostly about the politics in this one. But i believe the third title will have more about that stuff, with the wild hunt and everything related to that needing to be resolved.

On another note, does anyone think Iorveth looks like Daniel Craig? I think he does for some reason, and that makes him sort of badass on principle. Whatever lol

If we were to follow your advice there would be no games about anything since there always would be someone who has enough of something in real life...

Everyone always wants something different from the game and it is usually something that was not in the game to begin with, forgetting that the only reason they want something else, or something more is because the game in question stimulated their imagination about the said world to begin with...

Might I recommend (as suggested by others) that the series is not for you indeed, perhaps stick to something simpler as designed by those local to you and leave the Witcher for those who grew up and out of those... On the other hand if you consider the Witcher boring I am afraid to ask just how you feel about killing Darkspawn.

then you need to buy a game that is pure hack and slash. 1 of the strong points of this game series is the awesome story.

Well the difference between this game and reality is that you can do something about it. That's the illusion the game creates. It allows you to do something besides complain.
If you don't like that. I suggest you invest your time doing something other than complaining.

Considering my post, your answer is prefectly appropriate.

In my defense I must say that that only 2 games I have played where I felt like I was master of my fate and doing what I wanted to do is "Mass Effect" and Fallout New Vegas.

These games had that certain something (mostly a clever illusion). Mass Effect 2 didn't and The Witcher 2 doesn't for me. For me Gerault is too busy reacting to situations out of his control.

Sorry about saying that Witchers 2 monster encounters aren't scary .... but for me they just aren't. The modelling is great and the mosnters look great but it just isn't scary. The Kayron encounter had its flaws but it was suitably epic but not scary.

In essence I am expressing my opinion that I wished W2 focused more onh monster hunting and the supernatural than politics.

I would be a fool to say W2 is a bad game .... it isn't .... it is head and shoulders over almost all the games I have played in many ways. The last Bioware game like W2 I liked was NWN2 Mask of the Betrayer. I absolutely hated Dragon Age and couldn't even muster 1 playthough .... again I was always doing things I hated.

Somebody mentioned I should go with hack and slash ,,,,, but I am not a fan of that either, but I don't mind it either. NWN MofB had that mix of imagination and storytelling that really appealed to me. Too bad it ended just as it was beginning and I couldn't take that damned wall down ...

The Witcher is not a horror game/series. Unnerving is the most it should be really. The fact is that killing monsters is what Geralt does for a living, and in fact is genetically modified to do be good at, so why would he (or you) be particularly frightened?

If we're being honest the entire Witcher series is a philosophical treaties involving Geralt's inner struggle to stay on "The Path" while also battling his human impulses. Most of the stories involve Geralt being pulled into situations (political or otherwise) and trying to stay Neutral while also doing his part to "help the weak" which tends to put him at odds with lots of folks.

The games do a great job of following this, so yes perhaps it's just not your kind of game series.

The games do that, but also take off in an important new direction. You can see that in TW1, when Geralt has his "progress is like a herd of pigs" discussion with Zoltan.

The menace now is not the monsters in the wilderness that Geralt used to chop up for coin, but the monsters who rule the halls of power and the courts of law, and this is a world in which Geralt is definitely not at home.

This dissonance is a chief motivator of the game; if it's your cup of tea, as it is mine, that's wonderful.

Sirandar888:
In the Witcher 1 and the stories I know they're both equally important and linked to each other. Think the Stryga and the Werewolf. Also rises the question who's the monster? The ones with physical appearance or beings that do atrocities. Witcher 1 was much better at that.
