Spherego: Parts of the review I can agree with. The combat system is a bit weird. Sometimes I think I connected the blow, but I missed my strong attack. Then there are times when the auto-targeting makes Geralt leap across the forest to attack a so-called Kikimore when I wanted to attack that bandit with the huge stick and that ends the game for me.
the fast attack is the ranged one, and its what closes the distance for strong attacks. Probably obvious to you but I've seen some people confusing this. Also, if the player doesn't button mash, Geralt doesn't leap to an unintended target.

I miss the days from TW1 when Group-style took out a squad of Drowners. Now when I face more than 2: I run away and instinctively cast Quen. Heck Quen is my most frequent used-spell right next to Igni.

I miss group style too. Wish they still had it, but not as overpowered as it was in TW1.
I'm trying to avoid using Quen. I'm focusing on buffing up correctly with potions and oils and using Aard, Yrden, and bombs.

You do know that you target the one in front of your camera don't you? The targetting system is not random. You will not target the one in front of Geralt but the one that you're aiming with your camera.
Edge reviews don't carry the same weight these days as they used for me when I bought the magazine. I found myself disagreeing with their reviews more and more and their editorial becoming more and more pretentious in writing style to the point where I stopped buying it about four years ago. That the reviewers are not named means that you can't gauge how much scores are influenced by individual tastes, again, making their reviews worthless as a magazine is not a person, it's a collection of people each with their own preferences. I know reviews are meant to be objective but they cannot be completely unsubjective IMO.

That they didn't rate Witcher 2 is no surprise to me as they don't seem to rate western RPGs in general, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age Origins/II both got relatively low scores from them as well (I think Mass Effect 2 might have too...) but they love to overrate obscure generic RPGs and other games if they're Japanese. Sometimes I honestly think they've "lost the plot" so to speak but then an opinion is just an opinion at the end of the day.

Edge dont really have much love for more western developed rpgs judging by their track record. Here's a few scores of previous titles:

Mass Effect - 7/10
Jade Empire - 7/10
KotOR - 9/10
Baldur's Gate 2 - 8/10
The Witcher - 5/10
Morrowind - 6/10
Oblivion - 8/10
Fallout 3 - 7/10
Diablo - 7/10
Diablo II - 6/10
Dragon age: Origins - 5/10
Mass Effect 2 - 10/10
Whoa...Fallout 3 a 7? ME1 a 7?? Morrowind a 6!??

These guys are nuts.

Just Wow..... NO comment
I read that review a day ago or so and was pretty shocked as well.

Some of the reviewer's complaints are legitimate, but overall I agree with one of the commenters there. It feels like this reviewer decided to hate the game and then looked for ways to justify that hatred in the game.

It's a bit like "creationist science": deciding what the conclusion will be, then searching for evidence to justify it. The result is invariably nonsense.

It's actually nice to see that the magazine has been completely wrong about so many great RPGs, like giving Morrowind a 6 and DA:O a 5. It seems like they're totally incompetent at detecting greatness in RPGs.

Opinions are opinions, and I respect them. But calling an orange an apple isn't an opinion!.
