I'm from NZ and I just bought TW2 (Taking advantage of the sale) and after I purchased the game, I find out that I have the AU version - why is that?

I was excited to get it at such a good price, but I'm gonna be real disappointed if I have the censored version. The entire reason I bought it from GOG was because I was under the impression I wouldn't get hit with any of this censoring business.

I'm clearly not listed as living in AU in my settings.
Yeah, a lot of players have complained about this. I don't know the details, or the real reason behind New Zealand getting the Australian version, but it's not difficult to 'uncensor' the game. Check this topic out.

Edit: The first download link might be dead, but a user replied earlier this month and supplied us with the necessary files again. Link

If you have problems getting the files from Kindo's link, let me know as I have them.

And the reason you have the Australian version in New Zealand is because your country uses the same stupid rules as Australia.

It doesn't. But the AU distributor is the same as the NZ, so they probably made CDPR sign an agreement concerning the digiral distribution regions. So the censorship itself is the fault of the Australian legislature, but OP's hardships are due to the retail distributors' greed.

Any game that has been restricted (classified as MA15+) or banned in Australia or Britain has to be submitted for classification by the Office of Film and Literature in New Zealand.

And they generally do what Australia does in a lot of cases.

I don't know if this applies to The Witcher 2, you may very well be correct about the distributor, but regardless the distributor is bound by law.

Except for the fact that the Australian Classification Board does not give 18+ ratings to video games, therefore forcing those to be censored. In NZ TW2 would have gotten the red "Restricted 18" label, and that would be it. It was the publisher's strategy was to treat the region as one that's solely to blame for this mess.

aah, never thought to check that out. I'll follow the instructions and remove the censorship.
Hmm thanks for the info guys, appreciate it and I may look into replacing the files or whatever. But in all honesty I guess it's not that big of a deal in the scheme of things, I was just a bit dissapointed ~

What is actually censored anyway? Is it a big deal or will I be fine just playing my version as it is.

In any case, I have some time to think about it - I'm playing TW1 right now and thoroughly enjoying it!

A relatively minor thing. There is a sidequest for which you may choose money or sex as a reward. In the censored version Geralt automatically chooses cash.

What a pain, I've been reading around a bit and it seems it isn't just one side-quest, it's any quest where you can accept sex as a reward and as I'm playing the first game at the moment - it seems to happen a lot and my Geralt likes the ladies.

He wants choices dammit.

I know I can "restore" the files or whatever on my own, but man this is frustrating... I don't think GOG would change it or refund me or anything like that, which is a shame.

(Though it says so in the FAQ, that us NZers will get the censored version - there is NO indication during purchase of that being the case, at all.)
