Look for the graphic of the piles of wood lookin things. Also search inside houses.

After my first play through, Geralt refuses to pick up anything from a private residence. He always has plenty. (He will happily loot his enemies' domiciles.)
He is free to pick up items found in public spaces, though. The wold of the Witcher is, generally, mutualitst.

My Geralt exactly... Welli not exactly, just with a little difference, my Geralt loots the houses of people in the La Valette castle because a good portion of those people are probably dead and won't notice the orens gone.
