Asai: How about the Witcher go back to its roots. Fix the inventory, the save system dump the current clicky roll spam combat mechanic for the combat of TW. The combat in TW was different from everything else and that alone should be worth something. TW2 combat is a direct rip off of DA2 combat, abiet with less awesome button involvment with all the kite fight mechanic you can handle. If you want twitch there are plenty of console compromised games from developers all pumping out clones of each other's work all in the race to mediocrity to capture the child market to choose from. TW was DIFFERENT, TW2 is just another one of many and CDPR did not even fix what was broken in the last game. Choosing to instead ignore the broken stuff adding combat and alchemy to the list of broken stuff.

has no one played monster hunter here? Anyway there should atleast be some kind of weakspot system like in Demons Souls I remember fighting the tower knight you had to take out its legs and then it'll trip and you slash the head and it'll do some good damage.
I think the biggest flaw of the combat is instead of you having to use all your tricks Quens there and you just tend to use only that. You have to be forced into a situations where you have to use everything.
maybe for big enemies you needed to drink Petris Philter for Yrden to be effective stuff like that.

also concerning TW2 combat direction as opposed to TW1
in TW1 it was all about stats which was totally meh I don't want turn based combat. Real combat isn't turn based it's about reflexes not rolling dice.
I got what W2 was trying to achieve blending stats and actual skill together. I don't like the idea of STATS=WIN it's not deep gameplay for me.

I actually think that TW2 manages a very nice balance between preparation, rpg elements and combat reflexes. Its very tough to beat hard without using bothin TW1 it was all about stats which was totally meh I don't want turn based combat. Real combat isn't turn based it's about reflexes not rolling dice.

TWEE is a much better game and TW2 is not an improvment both games still suffer the same problems, doors are STILL weird, the inventory system is STILL BROKEN, and the save system still lacks player control like naming and managing saves.
The inventory system is so hostile to the user that in order to have any functionability i have to rely on a pad of paper next the computer. See for items like silver ore or something equally rare i can not pick up the item because once i do i am limited in what i can do with it. I have no storage so i must either carry it, or sell it, there is no other choice avalable to the player. So i write down the locations of rare items on a pad so that i do not have to carry or sell the item leaving it safe where it is making note on the pad the container location, item, and number until i have all the materials at which point i collect them up and craft. The whole inventory system requires me to meta game a second time (i had to meta game for alchemy usefull ness) so there is 2 examples where poor game design requires the player to break immersion to utalize to the fullest viable game mechanics.
Alchemy was simplified with the secondary extracts being dropped but that is irrelevant anyway because you have to be able to meditate to drink them. Add to this the over use of QTEs which means it does not matter anyway because you have to use potions SO FAR in advance that you have to meta game for them be useful. Helpful hint for future game designs, META GAMING IS AN IMMERSION BREAKER AND ALWAYS BAD FORM IN A GAME. So you must take potions so far in advance of the event you want to use them during but the timer still runs while you either 1) choose to ignore the dialog to keep some time left on the potion or place of power, or 2) read the dialog then do the event with a shortened time span on the potion. Making the player choose to pay atention to the story OR choose to ignore the story to keep time on the potion timer requires the player to meta game to get the benefit of a viable yet simplified game mechanic and this IS A SOLID GAME DESIGN (helpful sarcasm indicator<-----).
Do not even get me started on combat i have said my peice recognizing i am in the apparent minority position, regardless i will not change my mind. Simple trite button mash roll spam combat is COMMMON among games where as TWEE combat was different.
Which makes me wonder if TWEE combat was so terrible as many of you guys claim a valid question is; With out any access to a combat demo how did you know that the combat was going to be simple moronic button mash roll spam why would you have even bothered with TW2 at all?
Follow up point, put yourselves in my shoes, just for shits and giggles let us speculate that TWEE combat was hack and slash like TW2 combat and with the release of TW2 they chose to use the combat model from TWEE, how many of you would be pissed off at the change? Especially considering there was not notification of the intended change, just bamm cool combat to shit combat.
Do you feel me now? Discuss.

Well, that is your opinion, to which I completely disagree. I thought TWEE was a good game but it was really hard to like specially due to a boring combat system.
Also, the doors may be annoying but it sure as hell beats the constant loading in TWEE
Regarding the rest of your complaints: I recommend you sell your items instead of hoarding everything.

That's a really dumb thing to ask.

Well, sorry if you didn't like the game. Perhaps you should return if you disliked it so much. No one can tell you you are wrong for not liking something. As for your command to discuss, well, I can only say there isn't much to discuss.
I can only tell you that I find TWEE combat really bland and boring. Its hilarious that you complain about QTE's since the original combat was NOTHING BUT QTE'S. Lol.
Though I concede some of your complaints are valid, like the potion timing stuff, but they don't bother me as much as they seem to bother you.

scampywiak: The problem is the game doesn't feel like it went through testing or quality control and now we the gamers are rooting out all the issues for them. As I've said before, the game doesn't seem finished to me, it feels like its still in Beta.
That seems like a really big thing to say and I disagree. There are complaints but calling it a beta is too much (and almost insulting). The game has an incredible amount of polish. Have you played Bethesda games at release?
Lets not even mention Obsidian games LOL.
An slightly unresponsive blocking key and a clunky door animation is nothing when compared to games that release with game breaking bugs, broken quests, physics, etc. Things that actually make it unplayable, and I mean really unplayable like, not even able to continue playing even if you wanted to-

Asai: I was on topic it seems the TW2 could learn from TWEE which was exactly my point. TW2 is NOT an improvement over TWEE. TW2 could learn from TWEE as to what a good game was or did you guys just jump on the TW bandwagon this week with the release of TW2. ONE MORE TIME FOR THE SLOW cough gregski cough
Inventory
TW2 could use a storage system like in TWEE where you could store items of interest with the inn keeper.
Saves
It could learn from ANY OTHER GAME that does not utalize the current no name and no in game menu organizer for saves. Instead of requiring the player to manage saves through the windows documents folder which would not be too bad if i could actually name the saves i wanted to keep when i made the save, which would make paring the list down when necessary easier for the player.
Alchemy
TW2 could learn from TWEE in allowing the player to use potions when the player wants to which makes alchemy a viable combat mechanic as opposed to a gimmic as it is in TW2.
Or they could have paused potion timers while you sort through copious dialog QTEs instead of making the player choose follow the story or more potion time.
So TW2 could learn from TWEE in that the player should have the ability to drink potions when they chose to like in TWEE instead of making the player meditate.
I am sorry if any of this is still too hard for you to understand, and as the topic is "What Witcher 2 can learn from other games?" considering that the OP was less than specific as to what games he was thinking of TWEE is within the scope of the OP's query.
The topic is NOT "What Witcher 2 can learn from other games? (not including TWEE)", I am still on topic "get over it" sounds like good advice you might want to try as well gregski. See gregski the post is a question to which i answered in what i thought was as simplistic a manner as possible yet still convey the cruxt of my argument to answer the OP's question. I do understand just what the issue is, since we are apparently fans of TWEE i over estimated the intelligence of the current fans since the combat of TW2 is simplistic and moronic, it did not occur to me that i was still speaking to a simplistic moron, i do apologize. I do know better now. Refute the idea not the individual, the former is debate the later is not, is that clear enough for you now? It is not as much fun when the tables are turned is it?
