curlyhairedboy: i completed both quests and got the XP from both. both showed as completed with a green checkmark.

later, in chapter 3, they are marked as failed.

how is that not bugged?

Freewind: how come I dont have the same thing? didn't you collect all evidence PRIOR TO THE EVENT? did you incriminate stennis?
yep. didn't let the mob lynch him, but that doesn't affect his guilt. he served his time and went on to become a good king.

curlyhairedboy: yep. didn't let the mob lynch him, but that doesn't affect his guilt. he served his time and went on to become a good king.
the evidence comes out that he was guilty - deserve to be lynched. You can have your opinion otherwise. Yet the game grants you xp; acknowledges that you done it, got your opinion out.

so, it is not bugged. It is just not expectation.

p.s: stennis is by no way a good king.

I, too got a bit frustrated by that whole "competed quest" until the end of the Act when it failed, so I went back and replayed those quests - trying different choices and approaches to see what differences it would make.

But, I never saw a cutscene like the one you are describing. (Of course, I didn't play through each choice right to the end of the game, though). When did that scene take place? At the end of the quest, or later on in the Act / game?

I'm starting to think that there isn't a "canon plotline" to these quests - and whether Stennis is guilty or not is completely dependent on the choices YOU make...

it might be that way. the scene i saw involved some stained glass and a coronation.

I have tried all possible permutations I come up with.

he serve his time in jail and later become king? I don't get it. Maybe I do need a fraps for sure. LOL

I know that Geralt may choose to give him a fair trial which means he will be arrested and stay in prison for sometimes.

Yet, if you don't incriminate him - or let the peasans kill him, he will not be persecute and eventually become king.

Stennis is the killer. If you don't incriminate him, let the peasants kill him, he become a let-loose criminal. You failed to find the true killers. Period.

If you kill him without really investigate Thorak - do earlier side quests to know him, you just coincidently kill the criminal. So you fail as a true detective. Period.


What every happens later doesn't matter. You got to do some side quest prior to this main quest to reveal the real truth. Otherwise, you will fail the quest even if you decide to incriminate him.

well yeah. and this is why i say the quest is bugged - it doesn't matter if you have evidence or not, the quest is marked as failed if you prevent him from being lynched. the quest completion flag should be tied to his guilt (and if you found it or not) rather than his punishment.

after all, geralt isn't asked to 'choose the best sentence for this poisoner', he's asked to 'find out if this guy IS the poisoner'. if he completes the latter, then the former shouldn't matter for quest completion.

WhiteWolfy: First off, an explanation of 'What really gets my goolies'.

It is an Australian/English phrase which is akin to the American phrase, 'What really steps on my t*ts', if you get my drift. The difference being that 'goolies' refers to male anatomical parts rather farther down the body, sometimes referred to as the 'family jewels'.

Okay, enough said.

So, what gets my goolies is that all too often in W2, certain Quests fail because the Player didn't exactly follow some obtuse, convoluted path.

As examples, I offer ' Suspect: Thorak' and 'The Walls have Ears'.

Without going into details or offering Spoilers, those of you who have gotten to the point where you get those Quests and pursue them, know what I'm talking about.

But on topic, I know what you mean.
This probably could start another thread but a more gentile way of saying it "This gets my goat!! or Frosts my ass(not so gentile) or This SUCKS!! or I wracked myself(sits on balls) or WTF!! anymore??
