Totally agree with TC, on my second playthrough I'm definitely using the no weight mod so the inventory doesnt bring this amazing game to a screeching halt.

It would be nice if there was a weight limit increase in the skill tree or mutagens that drastically increased the weight carry limit. Even runes/armor enhancements that lessened the weapon/armors weight would be nice. Being stuck at 250, with a non elven armor and gloves, really hurts the game.

Oh and I know there's a "strongback" perk, but unfortunately I missed it.

There are some equipment that adds a bit of weight-capacities, ranging from +5 to +50 but they are rather rare or superseded by better equipment)

SystemShock7: Wait... when you click on the chest/bag/etc and you get the pop up with the contents you can loot, you mean to tell me there's no way to select a single item from the pop up if you are using a game pad?

ChaseDuncan: As far as I know. When you stand next to a container a little blue 'x' pops up that says 'search' next to it. If you press 'x' you pick up everything. I don't see any other options. I just went back into the game to play around and see if there's anything to do different but I can't find any way to pick up individual items if the option exists.
Not to start a flame war but this is one of those cases where PC players would say this is why KB/M is superior. (I'm mainly a PC player but I do use controller for some things).

In this case the reason isn't just due to preferences but has a lot to do with usage habits of the different types of devices. Whereas controller users usually use the joystick to aim the camera, mouse users see the mouse as a 2-purpose device: Not only does it adjust your view, mouse users also see the input device as a way to interact the world in any possible way.

What this means is that many controller users react to the game world in what I call a "reactive" way. You know you can press 'X' to take all because it's written on-screen, so you know that the 'X' button is functional in that context. Other than that, you're not expecting anything else to be possible.

Mouse users react in an entirely different way. When we see things pop up on screen, we have a tendency to try clicking on them, even if there are little or no visual hints. So not only will we click on the 'Take All' button to do so, we are also likely to try clicking on individual items if that's what we desire, even if we had not first learnt that it was possible. It's a programmed response that most mouse users have gotten used to.

Edit: If the game design does turn out to be such that controller users cannot pick and choose individual items, then that's really something that ought to be corrected. Perhaps try some of the other keys... D-Pad, for example. See if one of them works to highlight items in the list.

darkwoof: Can't you just select another ingredient and just replace the automatically chosen one?
avatar
Chromie192: Yes but after you craft just one potion it autoswitches back to previous ingredients.
Yes, I'm aware of this as another poster (could be you too, didn't remember his name, haha...) complained about this in another thread. It's a valid improvement that could be made.

I'm just stating that it was possible to replace ingredients as the query seemed to indicate that the poster seemed to think that you're stuck with the auto-suggested ingredients.

For this reason I always liked the "Bags of Holding" concept in the D&D games... Not only do those lighten the weight of the items carried, I often buy multiple of them and use them for sorting. (That's kinda of taken care of by TW2's built-in item type sorting capabilities though)

Agree with OP. the inventory is bad and I hope they are currently working on a patch to fix it.
darkwoof, I too prefer to play my games with KB&M the way god intended. The KB&M is one of the main reasons I only play PC games because that sort of interaction provides for a certain type of game to be made that just can't be replicated on a console. RTS'es, for instance, and top-down RPGs in the vein of Baldur's Gate and so on.

Unfortunately for me I recently started to experience some repeated stress issues from holding down 'W'. This is a particular problem for me because I am a guitar player, professionally, and I can't really justify limiting my ability to play my instrument in order to play my games. As a result I've mainly been playing 2d games which rely more heavily on the mouse than the KB. One of the main reasons I picked up the Witcher is because it looked like a cool RPG game that could be played with a gamepad.

So, yea, there's my life story you didn't ask for :)

My gamer ego just bucks about having to play with a controller. lol

indrasut: But you see that wont solve the problem completely...

If you are crafting a potion for example, the game automatically picks out the herbs for you and most of the time the ingredients it autopick isnt what you want to use...Sometimes it picks a rare ingredient that you dont want to use over common herbs that will do the trick. Like I want to keep my Endrega embryo for other things but it was automatically picked for Samum bombs instead of say, common Balisse herbs.

Yes you can, but you see the system autopick is not really working too well and it can be a pain if you keep doing that for different potions and you have to keep pressing Enter to make a potion instead of it asking you how many you want. Other minor thing is the ingredient chemical is not really of the same color/symbol location so you kinda have to see more closely...

The other thing beside this is the quick pocket item. No indication of how many traps/knives/bombs you have left so when you are out of the item, you just cant use it anymore but it doesnt gray the item from the pocket or make it unacessible. Give that a try.

Agree on the first part; nothing show-stopping in my opinion but I agree it can get annoying.

Oooh. Haven't noticed the second part myself, always kept items well stocked so haven't encountered this. Will probably load up a previous save (just started a new run through so archived my saves elsewhere; why are Witcher saves always so large?) and see how it goes.

I remember an interview with one of the ID software devs, probably not long after Quake was released. He said they received a stream of new revolutionary 'control' devices from manufacturers and he said something like "within an hour of testing every single one had been unplugged and thrown at the wall".

If they had been given an xbox controller it would be lying smashed on the floor like all the others.

Modern controllers are pretty annoying, to be sure, but I am impressed with what CDPR has managed to do with one. But, in general, they're totally unintuitive. The thing that makes KB&M so great is that the mouse allows you essentially 'touch' the game and the keyboard has so many options for input. A controller is just weird. They are ergonomic, however!
It depends on the controller.
