Hi, i recently bought and downloaded the witcher 2 enhanced edition (gog version), installed it right now and patched the game to version 3.2. before i go into details, my system specs:

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3,2Ghz
Nvidia Geforce 470GTX with beta driver 304.48
8GB DDR3 RAM Kingston
Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series
Windows 7 64-bit
Monitor Resolution 1920x1080 (don't know if that matters)

at first i started a test run with maximum details. ok, performance wasnt perfect as i already suspected. but even then i recognized that the game is somehow (micro) stuttering. i tried the lowest possible graphic settings to rule out any possibility that some specific option is causing the stuttering, but with high fps the stuttering became even more obvious. this is a real killer, i cant and wont play like this... is it related to using beta drivers? never had any problems with the nvidia beta drivers. if its something else i would be glad if someone could help me :)

I forget what actually causes this, but stuttering can usually be fixed just by using this stutter fix: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/possible_stutter_fix_worked_for_me_single_gpu/post15

What that does is cap the frame rate. Not sure why that fixes the stuttering, but it often does. I use it, myself, so I can vouch for it.
wow, that fix completely got rid of the stuttering, thanks!

but i guess this problem isnt that common? i didnt find anything about it in the common bugs/issues... and doesnt vsync cap the fps at 60 already?

anyway, the game runs perfectly now :)

The common bugs thread here? It hasn't been updated since May 23, 2011—six days after the game was originally released. Various bugs/issues have come and gone since then, and GOG seems to have more or less left problems like this for the community to solve rather than updating that thread in any meaningful way. I and many others have PMed relevant GOG staff to have new issues and their fixes included in that thread to no avail, hence that impression.

I remember someone explaining vsync awhile back and saying that it was forces the game to wait before rendering the next frame, or something along those lines. I'm not really great at the technical side of things, honestly, but it's likely that they're trying to achieve a similar result using different methods.
what vsync (vertical synchronization) does is synchronizing the fps with the monitor refresh rate, ie 60fps to 60hz, so there wont be any, i dont know what to call it, vertical glitch lines or something, im sure you have already seen them in a game. they appear because the are more fps than the monitor can display. its more complicated, but thats the simple explanation i guess. what i read from the witcher2.cfg.txt file that comes with the dll fix is only a 60fps limit, and a render ahead limitation to 2. maybe if you force vsync and the render ahead limit in the nivida control panel you get the same result. ill try it out

edit: editing the nvidia control panel actually helps, buts there is still a bit lagging/stuttering left. still far less than without these changes though. i guess theres something more to the dll file that comes with the fix. since im no programmer my guessing ends here.
