Hello,

I finally got my game registered after finding the DPI fix for the launcher. I THINK the game got patched but now I have NO voice overs, every other sound such as footsteps I can hear.

Anybody else getting this?
Yes, I have the same problem. Though I had voice overs until several hours played. I logged out, wanting to deactivate SSAO and when I started the game again, they were gone. The only way to enable them again was changing my speaker setup in Windows from 5.1 to stereo.

I had the same at the point where you have to distract the guard so you can disarm the ballista.

Restarting the game did not help, though after a while the voices returned on their own.

Same here! I have this same EXACT problem. SOME ONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Good god ive had witcher withdrawls this past 24 hours, i refuse to play without sound
There's a sticky on it, but basically you need to force stereo on your sound devices for now until the patch. I managed to get by by re-loading whenever this happened which wasn't that often for me.
For me this is currently happening for every savegame I create within Loreados base in Flotsam, after his first invitation, at night.

Every savegame I create standing before the gates of his compound is fine. But when I want to load a savegame inside the compound - having exited and started the game in the meantime - the voices are gone.

My current workaround / idea is to use the save outside the compound, do everything I have to in there, then exit it and save again. I hope it's just this place which disables the voice overs...

PS: I found an even better (constant) workaround then setting your driver to stereo...set it to 4/4.1 instead! All you will loose is the middle speaker, but you still got surround sound.

I guess it's that quite common problem with the middle speaker I've seen here and there with other games. Sometimes the middle speaker is too loud, sometimes too silent and sometimes it doesn't work at all. ^^

I ran into the same issue tonight. No matter what save (even WAY far back) voices would not play. My fix was, in the creative control panel check "sync with windows control panel". Then in windows control panel I set sounds to 2 speakers. Loaded the game, voices were back. Saved. Exited out, windows control panel, back to 5.1, UNchecked "sync with windows" on the creative control panel, and set creative to 5.1 as well. Now it loads up right. Hopefully I don't have to do this every time I play, but it worked that time at any rate.
Yeah, that's the good thing about my workaround...it always works. I've tested it:

a) 5.1 sound --> entered Loredos base --> autosave --> exited game --> started game --> loaded autosave --> voices gone...

b) 4.1 sound --> entered Loredos base --> autosave --> exited game --> started game --> loaded autosave --> voices still there.

I even tested b) multiple times, just to be sure. And because I'm a control-freak lol. :D

BTW: I just looked through the "Creative Audio Control Panel" and couldn't find the option you mentioned. Maybe it's because we have different soundcards - I use the Creative Labs X-Fi Extreme Gamer, the smallest of the real X-Fi cards.

Anyway, it's good we both found fixes that work. :)
Hi,
can everyone who has this problem (and it doesn't disappear after load) send me a save file at lukasz.babiel@cdrojektred.com ? I'll look into this.

For now - it's sometimes memory management problem, so try f.e. changing texture memory size etc.

I don't believe it has anything to do with the savegames. Let me tell you what I just did:

1.) Started the game and loaded a save right before entering Loredos base (standing near his guards, before the gate). I talked to the guard and entered the base with Roche. AUTOSAVE was created by the game upon entering. Inside sound was fine, voices where there. I exited the game.

2.) I started the game back up and loaded the AUTOSAVE. I'm in the base, sound is fine, voices are there. I exited the game.

3.) I went to my sound control panel and changed my speaker configuration from 4.1 to 5.1 (which is my real configuration, I have 5 speakers, including a central one and 1 subwoofer). I started the game again and loaded the AUTOSAVE. Voiced were gone.

I think you agree that by just changing the speaker configuration the AUTOSAVE could not be altered. It was the same savegame, just the software configuration of my sound hardware was changed.

As I said before I suspect this is a problem with the sound engine of the game not recognizing the central speaker. The central speaker is often used specifically for the voices in games, so that strengthens my suspicion.

On a side note it may interest you that with my speaker set to a 5.1 configuration I alway hear a slight *blob* coming from my speakers when I enter the main menu after having started the game and again when I enter the main menu after choosing "Exist to Main Menu" from the options. This *blob* can be normally heard when Windows loads the sound driver on startup or when I change the audio mode (my Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Gamer has 3 audio modes, "Entertainment", "Gaming" and "Development"; I use "Gaming" for games obviously).

Of course if you'd still like the mentioned Autosave I can upload it here, maybe together with my dxdiag.txt.
Yeah, we know about the issue with 4.1/5.1, but we have other mails about the voice disappearance issue and in some cases the voice disappear out of the blue (in random places, not in one specific, as in your case) and it has nothing to do with speaker configuration, so I try to collect as many data as possible to deal with this problem. Thanks for all the help.

Alright then, here's the savegame. I added my dxdiag as well:

I hope it helps. BTW, keep up the good work! :)
If you need more save games with voices disappearing, I can also mail mine.

I'll try to reload and if it breaks again I'll send in a save game after I get home from work. Thanks for looking into the matter!
