I haven't seen these problems posted, so sorry if they already were mentioned.

The first glitch I've been experiencing is when facing Dethmold. If I get him down to low health before I defeat the other soldiers, he just stands behind his magic wall and doesn't do anything, and I cannot proceed forward. And I prefer to fight him first, since he does much more damage compared to the mercenaries.

The other glitch is the input detection. I get in a battle with a few bandits and harpies, and suddenly, I cannot use my pocket item. So I try to jump out of the way and use aard. I can't dodge. Wondering what's going on, I decide to simply attack the enemy in front. Doesn't work. The only thing that was working was moving around, and moving the camera. I thought that was as bad as it can get. I was wrong. On 4 occasions, I've ran into a ridiculous problem where NOTHING worked, aside from moving around. Couldn't even use the camera or the sign menu. I realized that on each occasion, it started when trying to use the pocket button. I tried throwing a knife then suddenly couldn't do anything at all. And the only thing that gets it working again is if Geralt takes damage (even have to wait for Quen to run out). And after it starts working again, Geralt finally uses the pocket item. The fact that this happened 4 times is ridiculous. What worries me most is that I haven't seen anyone else report this glitch, so it's unlikely that I'll see a solution any time soon. :(

It's a shame that these glitches occur, because aside from those, my experience with this game has been amazing.

Have you actually tried defeating the other soldiers after Dethmold puts up his wall thing?
I haven't seen the first one reported, but I've seen the second. Can't recall which thread I read it in, but you're not the only one.

Obviously. :p He just sits there and watches.

I mentioned this on another forum and someone else said they experienced it too, and they told me I had to get rid of the Mercs first.

The only possible bug related to your first part I've heard of (never confirmed myself) is if you have used finishing moves in that fight.

But, since I haven't used finishing moves since my first playthrough, and I never had that problem, all I can say is what is supposed to happen is this:

1) You kill the mercs. No matter how often you "kill" Dethmold, he will always teleport to safetey and heal, so just ignore him.
2) Once mercs are dead, Dethmold teleports to safety, makes a snide remark, then steps into his orange portal of sissiness.
3) Barrier drops, and you enter a cutscene centered around the merc leader.

If that doesn't happen, you're bugged, and again, the only bug I've heard, but haven't confirmed, seems to be attached to finishers.

I'm already past that part, but I just wanted to point out the glitch. If Dethmold goes behind the barrier before the mercs are dead, he should either make his snide remarks and teleport away once they all die or return to battle then teleport away. And it's unlikely that I used finishing moves each time I ran into the glitch, I do not use them often, and I don't remember using them at any time in that fight.

Then it doesn't sound like you were bugged at all. :/

What do you mean?? If I bring Dethmold down to low health before defeating the mercs, he goes behind the barrier and doesn't do anything, even after the mercs are dead! He just stares! I cannot proceed with the game! It's obviously a glitch.

Its a known glitch.

I'll bet Adam Pangratt is still on your overview as a 'red' target even though he's on the ground?

This happens if you kill him using anything other than a normal sword stroke.

Finishing moves, Signs, Grenades and traps all screw things up. (Cos you appear to actually kill him.... he's just supposed to be out cold where as finishers etc all seem to put his HP in the negative)

It took me 4 attempts to get past the fight cos I overkilled every time.

Input detection is definitely a problem - I see this mentioned over and over at forums. It's also discussed here:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/controls_stop_working_randomly/page1

Some Witcher newbies seem to get frustrated when they can't block due to running out of Vigor, or being in the middle of an action they already initiated - but there's clearly a bug occurring beyond those cases.

I am exactly in the same boat as you. On my currently first play through and when facing Dethmold I get the "can't do anything but run arround" input bug. I can't sheathe my sword, I can't use throwables, can't even attack with my sword. Basically I can't do damage in any way or form. I can only dodge away using spacebar and cast quen using the 8 key.

So far I have tried unequipping various items up to everything I posses. There's definately something going on here. Tthis is not the "oh I didn't know I need Vigor to block" noobie camp but a full blown input not recognized bug. I finally gave in an loaded a quicksave before the fight starts. Bummer, let's hope it doesn't happen again.
suffered the same input in the start of the area with the assassins creed reference.
wasd worked, but barely anything else. not even esc, afair i had to kill the process in taskmanager.

It also just happened that I wasn't able to use bombs at all, only traps worked. Happened at the sleeping guards @ loredo. After the fight, everything worked again.

Not to mention that blocking itself only works sometimes, and sometimes not.

Input system is really broken at some point ;(
