Sigh. The Witcher books are really the only books I'm at all interested in.
So I either have to learn Spanish or accept that my literary interests are limited to Harold and the Purple Crayon (don't hate, that book changed my life).

vAddicatedGamer: Or you can try to piece together the puzzles with Google Translation (oh, much fun)
Literature is one of those rare arts that can retain its power after being transposed into different languages and such. There are very, very few things that can be done to actually damage that art. Google Translate seems to have taken that as a challenge. On a scale of honorable citizen to bank robber, GT is a full-fledged Jack the Ripper when it comes to translations.

Paul_cz: I already read all 7 books twice (in Czech) but learning Spanish does not sound bad. Spanish is quite widely used language so it would be useful, and from what I heard the spanish translation it supposed to be very good.
I mean, Polish (like Czech) is nice and all, but learning language used in only one country...does not seem like a usefully spent time to me.

You can't tell that the books was originaly written in another language just from reading the spanish translation.I mean, Polish (like Czech) is nice and all, but learning language used in only one country...does not seem like a usefully spent time to me.

Sheesh, the english publisher is horrible. It only took 2 years for the whole saga + the three short story collections to be published in my language.

So... can anyone confirm if the translations were ever done? It looked like things were happening quickly by following the post history and then like happens so often, dead silence for months... Did this endeavor fall apart or did the progress and updates get moved somewhere else?
I have my name on the waiting list for the official Times of Contempt on Amazon, but even now nothing has really changed over there with no new information about a release. I read quite a bit and hate leaving a story unfinished... If translations are never going to be forthcoming can someone at least tell me if Geralt's adventures had a conclusion of some sort and if so what they grand ending of the epic was? Wouldn't want to ruin it for someone who can read all the stories, but an unfinished story is like a splinter in my mind and I would like to at least have some closure if nothing else, though getting to read them would be even better!
What's the word then? Are the translation complete and available anywhere in English?

They're around, I've downloaded all (or all but the last book, don't recall) of them in English - from the quick scan I did they seemed to be of decent quality. Many kudos to the fans who've put in the hard work to translate them. Haven't gotten to reading them yet...
Can't recall where I got them, but either google for them or head to the forums on thewitcher.com and have a look there.

They're very good, and they're working their way through the remaining books.

Thanks for the heads up guys! I'll definitely have to read those ASAP. Thanks for the great link to that list dragonbird!
Nice to see the fans have stepped up to bring the books to others. Honestly I am hugely grateful to those who are taking there time to make these, but I am also disgusted. First there were, and are, many many games that never get completely fixed by the publisher, dumping work loads on fans who weren't willing to see there favorite game be less than it could be because the publisher was too lazy or cheap to do their job. Was kinda rare at first and almost done apologetically because funds just dried out... now it almost seems like the norm and I rarely get any game that's older than 6 months without looking for, and almost always finding, a fan patch. It would be one thing if fan patches were always simply adding features, but many times they are just plain fixing bugs, sometimes 100s of them!
Now I see it in the world of books to?! Making fans translate books because publishers are afraid of the risks... especially after seeing some success with other books in the series! I had hoped the days of incomplete stories and abruptly dropped series were over with the movies and TV shows of the 80's ;)
Seriously though, it does bother me. Makes me nervous about really getting into anything new anymore. There is a lot of good stuff out there that just gets pushed to the side over money concerns. Doesn't seem to be any companies these days who are in it because they are fans of what they do, its all just for the money, from music to games to books! Very sad....

It's so weird that it's taking this long for translations for (probably) the largest market. Even in Europe, a huge number of people speak/read English.
It's in all these other niche languages like Czech (no offense to Czechs), that basically nobody outside of that country can read.

Is there any more news on the official translation of these books
love the games and would love to see the books get translated (the fan translation is great but I personally prefer paper copies of books)

The English-speaking press has a bad case of unwillingness to take risks, caused in no small part by gigacorporate ownership. (Gollancz is owned by the €8 billion (milliard) a year conglomerate Lagardère Group.)
Difficult translations of an author little-known in the English-speaking part of the world are the sort of propositions that the minions of publishers answerable to an enormous corporation are not going to want to stake their positions on :(
