I have to agree many of the posts on any community tabs are the worst of the gaming community. Thankfully we here can be a bit more erudite when voicing our disquiet and opinions.

Don't get me wrong I think W2 looks amazing, plays amazing when it works and leaves the competion in the dust. When it Works.

I was there the first time round during the W1 problems. It just feels like nothing has been learned. I know that is simplistic and the problems they are encountering are new and far more complex but The lack of a Forum is inexcusable. A patch I can wait for. Though not forever. There are 10 life times worth of games out there to play through.

Well, at least we are not having a Vampire The Masquerade:Bloodlines situation here. Bugs are limited and there is a company to fix them.

NewYears1978: Muhahah! Honest truth, I burned the steak nearly every time I cooked in in our apartment. Because our stove was a piece of crap. Now we just got a house, we have a real stove, and a grill. Now the steaks turn out good =)
you should be locked up, and set to death! how dare you ruin steak, the best dead tasting thing... did you ever think about the animal that was murdered for you to enjoy that, and you just BURNED IT. cant even enjoy the thing that was murdered. *cries*
I do agree that the lack of forums is quite baffling.

I mean I can setup my own forum in about 5 minutes. Odd that they couldn't setup something? I know it may be a little tricker with the website backbone and registration and such...but still..is something that should be done well before a game's release.

Almost always a forum comes out before a game is even close to being released. Some games the forum is out YEARS before anything is released..and then it might have to be tweaked or redone after release when community based (like Bioware social boards for instance)

It's okay, have paid for my crimes. I was forced to stay off the computer for a week and instead sit on the couch and listen to my wife talk. :) haha

I just assume the lack of a forum is because 95% of the posts in any given forum are mouth-breathing, brain deads incessantly whining and contributing absolutely nothing to society.

They'll bring it back up when the initial flood of one time players are done and moved on to the next best thing, and actual fans who used the last forum to talk about plot and story and mods can do so in peace. :p

That's were you went wrong trying to cook a steak in a computer :)
Okay, games starts up again after CLEAN re-install. No patch.
I noticed that there is a Activate.exe in The Witcher 2 folder.
Plus, that first patch, that was already included in the initial download? It calls itself "Activation Patch" and it executes itself automatically upon game install. See attachment.

And now Imma have dinner. Play later. Much later, when I have figured out if I can just copy the Troll back in or wait for the servers to go online.

We all know the juice will be worth the squeeze. We are just impatient and disappointed about lack of communication, that's all. Loyal fans here.

The better test would have been to do that without an internet connection. But, I have that file in my directory as well, and I could have sworn back on release day paranoid people did this test and found it didn't connect to the internet at all.

pitfiend: Its not that we are ungrateful for a great game, its just that we live in the age of ruthless competition, we as consumers have learned that we have the power to force companies to strive for higher standards.
Reminds me of a thread I once read. There was a poster saying the exact same thing to a developer who was posting in the thread. The developer just replied, "No, we don't have to obey your every whim just because you bought the game. It's our game."
