jlibster: Has anyone tried reinstalling Witcher 2 with the Internet DISCONNECTED? that I think would stop the auto-installer...wouldn't it? You shouldn't need the game/installer running to manually install the patch files if I understand the software mechanics correctly.
When you reinstall you can actually cancel out before the auto-installer kicks in ... the problem is if you have the retail edition, you can't run the game if you do so, as the DVD is missing the day one patch. And since there's no 1.0 available to download seperately, your only choices to get a working game are a) Running the auto-installer, which of course updates to 1.1. b) Manually installing the 1.1 patch. Either way, people like myself seem to be screwed, as 1.1 breaks the controller, no matter what.

boozee: if I do a reinstall from gog, will it include the 1.1 patch? I would love it if that is the case.
as of now the only distributor that does this is steam atm (albeit with the users currently needing to download 9 gigs for a 20 mb patch.......me included....sigh

unless im wrong

if i am you can smack me with your wooden spoon
if it is more stable :( then why would I want to install the patch :( I played it for about 30+ hours and only had 1 crash so far. it only happened when I alt tap out of the game too much.

For the controller, you are correct you are foobarred. (CDPR admitted as much as they said they had to test "many versions" without controllers). However you don't need to run the game to install the patch manually. And once the 1.1 patch is installed manually you have no SecuROM so activation shouldn't be required so you should be able to then run the game without Internet or DVD if necessary. Please let me know if this understanding is incorrect.
Anyone else have this issue with new patch?

You must remember, that we were all hoping for improvements with patch 1.1 None of us could know in many cases it would be LESS stable until some of us volunteered to be lab rats. Someone had to try it before we knew I guess. I'm not throwing any blame at anyone (CDPR included);they rushed to fix things as fast as they could and I give them credit for the huge effort. Its just too bad so many mistakes got made in the initial release, especially the SecuROM idea, which really hurt them in the end I suspect with the lost CPU cycle/fps fiasco. So far, the GOG people did get a better deal than the DVD retail people, but for the wrong reasons from a software project prospective. At least we have the most stable, best performing version from the majority of reports, even without the 1.1 patch.

For people who are having issues, the more detail (and screenshots if possible...I saw a few) we give to CDPR, the faster they can fix it. Especially crashes. We seem to be the new beta testers, so let's give em our best efforts (since we seem to love it enough to keep on playing...). Maybe they'll give us an "Enhanced Edition" upgrade later as "thank you" gift. (hint...hint...)

Yes, you can patch the game with 1.1 offline manually, and can then run it without activating. That isn't the issue with 1.1; the issues are that a) It broke the controller. b) It did not fix Troll Trouble if you already played poker against the guy (I forget his name).

There may be other issues with it as well; these are just the two I've personally encountered.

StingingVelvet: Am I imagining things or does the game look significantly worse with this patch applied? It seems like pop-up was worse and textures are worse. I double-checked my settings were the same as I had them before.

Weird.

Ooman87: It looks just as good to me, and my fps has gone up by 10-15. Is there a chance that you changed something in your card settings or your monitor settings since you last played?
For some reason I had to reboot the game again and then my texture settings went back to high. Didn't work the first time.

Though I do now have the depth of field bug. It doesn't work anymore after patching.

Like I said in the thread about it I have had pop-in like that since day one.

The controller they said would be in patch 1.3 the "latest". (Of course given the mixed reviews of this patch I'm not holding my breath (again, no blame just an objective observation). The bug in Troll Trouble is an excellent bug catch. (CDRP...you guys hear that....if so...maybe fix in patch 1.3...?) I'm going to try installing the game on my system this weekend as I can now get the content I want without hooking my system to the Internet (with patch 1.1 applied so I get TT) and see how it fares. My XP Game/Test system will be as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.2 ghz CPU,
4 GB DDR3 Ram
Gigabyte 9800GT fanless card with 1 GB Memory
ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-E Audo Card
Windows XP SP3
DX9
will run at 16:9 ratio on a moderately large LCD TV

Its Probably "low end" compared to many hard core gamers's machines I guess with the exception of the Audio card (I like my audio "extra crispy"). If any of you have anything to share running this on a similar, please let us know in case this is "underpowered" Thanks all.

Many reported the DOF bug. The restart makes sense in my experience with MS windows (core services need reinitializing I guess). Hence the phrase, relax, breath, reboot..... (The definition of MS windows)

Where did they say that? If so, that's super lame, especially since 1.0 isn't available as a separate download. That'll leave anyone who wants to use a controller in the lurch for who knows how long. Two weeks? Three? Four?

What problems are you having with the controller? The only difference for me is that I have to use the d-pad to navigate the menus, but I can scroll in the attributes section finally without hitting wasd on the keyboard.

The update broke the ability to use both thumbsticks in menus, at the title screen, and quick menu.

That's what happened to mine, but I can play the same without using the analog stick for the menus (including the quick menu). It isn't that much of a difference, but I'm hopeful for them getting it fixed soon. I also have "next sign" mapped to the "d-pad down" button since you can just sheathe your sword by pressing left or right again. If they add the ability to map the "back" button then I can use the "next item" function as well.

Have you tried xpadder with the game? I wonder if that would be just as good or better than the programming they've done for the controller.

It was mentioned yesterday in this forum (which is probably the longest now in GOG history LOL). Several people asking. Slight typo, staff member indicated adding it patch 1.3 "at the latest". so some hope for you controller guys there. Its a relatively low priority I think to CDPR compared to reports of :

1. increased crashes in some cases.
2. Lost FPS in some cases
3. Weaker graphics in many cases
4. Installation problems if all DLC and Mods are not removed
5. pop-in display issues (always there never fixed. MANY complaints)
6. Confusion in accessing the included DLC
7. Troll Trouble bug in patched version (if you've gambled you can't complete quest...?)
8. Less stable than GOG version 1.0 (with day one patch)

You see all they have to tackle...I don't envy them. all we can do is be patient....

Just for the lulz try reading some journal entries with gamepad (without using mouse or keyboard)... and you will find most annoying/frustrating thing about gamepads in v1.1 (but yeah glad they fixed character attributes at least).
