I have now tested out my theory, and it seems to have been confirmed as true. As long as you do not speak to Dandelion prior to getting the Isle of Avallach flashback, you can then go to him and tell him you've 'been to the Isle of Avallach.' You will still get the first journal entry if you do this, so you won't miss out. I'll update the OP with this information.

Also, completely as a fluke, I noticed you can tell Dandelion about the book you find in the bath house - 'The Wild Hunt' - and you'll get some unique dialogue that I have never seen before. They talk about far-away worlds, beyond the stars and what not, it's really quite interesting. It does not add a new journal entry, but it does serve as a hint to search for the research notes you can later find in Act 2, in the catacombs near Vergen. As with the Yennefer journal entry, I'm not sure exactly what made this possible. I believe, however, they two are linked together - you need to get the Yennefer entry before you can show Dandelion the book.

Edit: I now have tried the same 'trick' in Act 2, in regards to getting the Song of the Hunt interpreted by Dandelion, if you are in Vergen. It didn't work, so it seems that journal entry can only be acquired if you followed Roche. :(

I just found out that you also have the choice of speaking to Roche, rather than Dandelion, after you've interrogated Ciaran. You can mention to him you've just 'questioned Iorveth's commander,' and Roche will tell you about a witness account from a woman who had spotted Geralt as he was pursuing the Hunt. Roche will then advice Geralt to take a look at the burned down insane asylum, which ties in with the fact that you can tell him about the notes regarding patient 15, who claims to have been abducted by the Hunt, but later managed to flee. There's also a few tidbits about the Isle of Avallach.

Anyway, you can only choose one conversation to engage in (either Dandelion or Roche). What a mystery this is!

Yeah, I suppose. He doesn't quite strike me as someone who would bother talking about the Wild Hunt in the first place, though. I'm actually surprised Roche is even willing to humour you when it comes to this.

I've updated the original post with a couple of corrections. I also realized I have no idea where I got this entry from. I remember having it at some point (in 1.0 or 1.1 maybe), but I can't seem to get it again. It sounds like it should be added as part of discussing the research notes with Cynthia or Myron, but no matter what different combinations I try, I always end up with only the entry pertaining to 'astronomical observations.'

A bit of a shameless bump, but has anyone noticed any change in these conversations and journal entries, since the 1.3 patch? I know they never mentioned anything in the changelog, but hey, they forgot to add the part of the revamped Adrenaline system, as well.
