sheikh212: It might have been because I was full alchemist (level 2 of most abilities) plus I drank thunderbolt, rook and vigra + falka's blood oil I absolutely obliterated him and his gargoyles. With berserk mode I had well over +150% damage. He went down in 4 heavy hits, the gargoyles in 3.

Load up on buffs and hit him with a few heavy hits to start off with. He'll put up his shield, switch to your silver sword and put up a quen, go after the gargoyles immediately you can take one down while the quen protects you from the other. Take down the other and pull out your steel sword and hit him a couple more times and repeat.

The gargoyles are your main concern, they're a bitch to fight in such a cramped space.
i always thought you had to use a silver sword against the Operator as well !!
i mean isn't he a supernatural entity or somethin cooked up by the Vrans to award the chosen ones??

Nope. He is a human I guess. There will be a message about silver being ineffective if you use it against him. Bastard. Gargoyles need silver so you gotta change your sword now and then.

AAARRRGGHH to think i used silver against him both times i fought him ( must have missed the message).
no wonder he was so hard to kill.

That being said, when the bastard is gargoyle-less he is basically just a regular wimp.
If you didn't know that no wonder people finding him so hard haha.

Hit him with steel until he summons the gargoyles at which point he's invulnerable. Get out your silver and deal with them then switch back to steel (his shields go down after you defeat the gargoyles). There are 2 sets of gargoyles you have to deal with.

I agree he's just a regular mage without the gargoyles.

Actually I use Aard and steel sword only. When you manage to stun them gargoyles, any sword does the job hehehe
I wonder: does the swordman tree's finisher works on the gargoyles? I know it should kill only one at a time, but does it work?
Is he only on Roche's part? Accepted to be the chosen one and I dont think I have too many savegames left.
Managed to kill him on Insane with a Swordsman/Alchemy build. I was actually going to skip this fight since I knew from my previous playthoughs that there was a GOOD chance I was going to die and loose my saves, but decided to give it a try having done the fight twice before.

Basically only used Aard and dodge rolls, I'm not a big fan of Quen because of the vigor penalty. With the higher end weapons and buffed critical effects I one shotted most of the gargoyles which helped a lot.

I didn't have a chance to fight with him yet (after 7 plays, just because I always went and talked to Deathmold first -.-; ) but I must admit that Swordsman/Alchemy build kicks butts.

While doing my playthroughs (not counting first try which was on normal not hard) I went pure sword, pure mage, pure alchemy... then sword+magic, magic+alchemy and sword+alchemy and the last one is just OP when you're buffed up. Not to mention adrenaline bar which was almost always full thanks to passive generation from potions and slaying opponents.

I guess the hardest part for me with this build was with dragon at the end. Not because of dying but it took my 3 reloads to figure out that I can't kill her with bombs while standing near Sile teleport and getting healed with Dragon fire breath. (Just if anyone wondered you need to lower dragon hp to ~30-50% then hit at least once with sword to get cut scene where you're allowed to go on top of the tower... then bomb her until her hp is at ~10-20% and hit with sword again to get another cut scene, pain in the butt)
Killed the bastard on my insane run :). I too was an alchemist/sword build (0 in magic), did every preparation before the battle. At the fight I had 720 hp, 179 armor, 55% dmg red from magic etc. this is an armor spec build still almost managed to die :). Gargoyles died from 3-4 hits so my dmg was not bad either.
