I'm so angry right now.

This battle is stupidly hard, in part because he's not even programmed to have to turn around before using abilities.
I've seen him do a 180 insta cast of the push ability so many times today! :-E

I can't believe anyone thought this battle was well designed....

Edit: ARGH! After loading an earlier save, getting better equipment I'd missed and leveling up to get parry, the game crashes whenever I try to lead the elf leader into see the brick wall guy. :-(

Actually, it is not a difficult battle, even on Dark mode. Hit him hard and often, from the start of the sequence. Use Aard to make him defenseless, and Yrden to make him stay put while you hit him.

Do unto others before they do you.

That only works for about five attacks in a row and only when he's against a wall; I tried it.

After the game worked again, I ended up just using the trap over and over and over. Still stupidly hard since he blocks pretty much everything and my unupgraded signs do next to no damage.

Without trap, it'd have been impossible since you can't have potions for that battle.

The irony is that every other battle in the game is way easier because of your power compared to enemy power you have at the time.

Aard lets you get two guaranteed strong hits in no matter where he is, though. He'll sometimes block on the third and above, often putting you in a bad position in the process. If you play conservatively and keep your distance, those two hits per aard eventually add up and you can get through the fight without him managing to block you once.

Do what I did.
Just lame it out with Quen, bombs and Aard.

I felt it is slightly harder to do if you are on the Alchemy Path, since that skill tree is a bit weak early game, but it is still possible.

The Draug battle is worse imo; they don't give you time to take potions, which kind of neuters Alchemists (unless you have something like 50 bombs and traps, like me :D)

Oh my goodness, Letho was just about no fun, but I managed to beat him within a dozen tries (most of which were pretty short). At least he's better than the beastie (can't remember it's name) where the QTEs and bad hit detection constantly killed me. Thank Andrzej Sapkowski for Witcher signs.

Having beaten him, would you like six cans of internet beer or a half finished bottle of imitation internet champagne? (My download rate hit above an MB twice or so yesterday.)

Try him on dark mode instead, its fun!

I was doing pure melee build; I never used knives and rarely used bombs.
At first I kept rolling behind him and hitting, but he'd just insta push me. :-(
In the last battle of the game, he WAS pretty easy.; I think the only difference on him was that he had more health.

Anyway that and the first drowner combat where the only things I had trouble with.
I'm looking forward to game number three. :-)

I had to use a cheat engine sheet to beat him just to get rid of my frustration, if I chose a normal difficulty that mean I want to be able to beat everything without throwing 7 hours of my life on the same damn boss.
Now I just unistalled that game, I will never play a game anymore when I cheated on it, a game i'm obliged to cheat while playing on normal difficulty must be pretty unbalanced.

I went throught all of the witcher 1 without any problem at all, I even beat the last boss just by clicking on the same button for five minute and now I can't even beat the very first boss which by the way is far FAR less powerful than Geralt who let me recall it to you, killed hundred of men of the wild Hunt, died once then came back whileletho just killed two disarmed king in the most cowardly way.

You can always wait for my money Cdprojekt, I will nver buy the witcher 3.

Did you actually watch the intro video? Dude kills a skilled mage, a skilled archer, and two guards in a frontal assault while the boat they were all on was doing its best Titanic impression.

And I don't know what game you were all playing, but I beat Letho on Dark difficulty as a level 1 character. It's not like he's impossible to beat or anything—you just have to adjust your play style a bit to suit the new situation.

I actually beat that fight on my first try without taking a single hit with the UltraDark Mod installed and doing a 42-minute speedrun of Dark Souls at the same time!

Just kidding. That fight also took me several tries on normal, it was definitely the hardest part of the game for me. The great thing about this game is that you can adjust the difficulty on the fly. I can understand the frustration of having to restart the Letho fight several times, but the game really is worth it and gets even better after that fight.

Unless you want those sweet Dark mode weapons/armor.
