Finished The Witcher 2 and loved it(this might be the best looking game ever). I am posting because now that I finished I picked up splinter cell on Steam for $7.
I waited with suspicion as secure Rom installed and checked and then I figured I was ready to go. Another screen comes up: "please enter your email address and password" I clicked cancel because I was not interested in multi-player or coupons.
The game exits.
I try it again.
The game exits again.
WTF?

Apparently I cannot play Splinter cell unless I "sign-in" with Ubisoft. Why do I have to feel like I am dealing with the a parole officer to play a $7 dollar game on Steam?
Is anyone else getting fed up with this kind of thing?
Thank you again GOG for not treating gamers like potential criminals

PS- I have bit torrent. I only use it to download patches and mods. From here on out I will steal every ubisoft game I can get my hands on

Well that's how we got to this in the first place :P

Seriously though, the point of this DRM is lost to me when pirates get to play it hassle-free.
Talking about piracy may get you banned.

That being said, Ubisoft needs to die in a fire.

I've beaten games then bought them later, or beaten them halfway and bought it later. Torchlight comes to mind. For the most part tho, if you beat the game you're not likely to buy it.

"As for I was never going to buy it anyways" usually means "at the price it is now, i would never consider buying it". Sometimes it means "im curious in this game, but no amount of money would leave my wallet to pay for it" Usually that's for games with no demo.

No I have never stolen a game, thats actually how I found GOG; For awhile there if you wanted a copy of "Planescape" it or bit torrent or nothing.
If Ubisoft is going to make customers jump hurdles like a criminal then they deserve what they are getting.
Think of it this way: What if when buying a DVD at Best Buy you were required to fill out an address from and sign a contract promising not to watch the movie with more 1 other person at a time?
Absurd

I agree with you, but pledging to steal only undermines the anti-DRM cause and makes the rest of us look like douchebags. Please stop.

If you feel that Ubisoft don't deserve your money, that is fine, but on the flip side you do not deserve to play the game either. You are nothing more then a lousy hypocrite.

Even though Michael Ironside is the Man, if I had know ahead of time that I would have to go though secure Rom, email registration and then a activity code, I honestly would have saved the $7 and watched Total Recall instead. I doubt Ubisoft or Steam has any interest in refunding me though
there are other ways beyond piracy to critisice about a company, remember than no matter what its ilegal and unfair.
try giving your opnion in the forums, expose the fails of the company, try to help, not to destroy. Remember that the end of the chain are us...gamers. So when a company takes actions against piracy, most of times are we who suffer.
Also, about the login thing ur right, it shouldnt be that way, I have the game on steam too and had to register it.
PD: sorry for my english, I know its not perfect.

Good advice. It's what I do when a game company/publisher announces some kind of asinine DRM scheme on an upcoming game. I let them know they've lost a sale from me, that I won't pirate their game, and that they'll stop exactly zero pirates anyway.

Take this as a lesson to research all your game purchases no matter how cheap. I do this now, solely due to the stupidity of DRM schemes that I disagree with. If it has something I don't like, I don't buy. Sadly, this generally means that I don't impulse buy anymore. Oh well, I also don't spend as much money on games anymore either.

Your fault that you didn't read the store page, under system requirements they state internet connection, so that means you must have the internet, not an option, also under the requirements it states
HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS AND CREATION OF A UBISOFT ACCOUNT ARE REQUIRED TO ACCESS THIS VIDEO GAME AND ONLINE FEATURES AND TO PLAY ONLINE.

You still have no rights or even deserve to steal their game if they are not paid for. They may not deserve your money, but you do not deserve to play their games either.
"You still have no rights or even deserve to steal their game if they are not paid for. "
Can we haz stealed a game if we bought it? Yes we can! Bioware/EA proved it!
*points at bioware/ea bans*

I for one have to say:
DRM and copy-protection sucks and does not work!!! (only legit buyers are subject to restrictions by these mechanisms)
You companies *winks at EA&Ubisoft* got me to the point where I buy a game and keep it boxed and grab a pirated copy of your game for personal use. You know no DRM/protection hussle and all that...
