This must be the new era of errors... Anyway im already awaiting response back from tech support about this but i figured id post here in the mean time just in case someone has actually run into this before and knows anything about it.

Upon installing the game iv received a rather strange error, as follows
- - -
"Feature transfer error"
Feature: Required files
Component: Data
File: D:\data2.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)
- - -

I received this error while the installation was attempting to copy pack0.dzip to >The Witcher 2\CookedPC

Any idea's, solution's or advice ?

Not that strange after all, but unfortunately rather common:

Report back, if any of that was helpful.
Ok, i tryed to copy the dvd contents to a folder on the hard drive and got the same error. Im assuming at this point, i may have a damaged disc.
If you have access to another computer transfer the files to that and then to the computer you want to install on, some drives seem to be having issues with the DVDs.

I wouldn't be too quick with that assumption.

We had a lot of people here who reported that same error and in most cases their DVD-drive just wasn't able to read the disc (which still partially is the discs fault, but it's not "broken"). If you have an external drive try hooking that up or try another computer for copying the files from the disc to an usb stick or something, which you then in turn use to install it on your gaming rig.

A lot of people are experiencing the same thing.

You can try turning off your anti-virus, but in most cases, it's caused by your DVD drive's laser being unable to read the DVD.

If you have a different brand drive, it may work.

Unfortunately, exchanging the DVD for another one probably won't solve the problem.
My laptop's drive read and copyed the files fine, at about 8Mb p/s actually. The drive on my desktop is a good drive, its by Plextor. I just dont see how one drive can read it and the other cant.

Now that i think about it, at one time i had a bot running around through the system. I wonder if it may have damaged or corrupted the firmware. I know it caused problems with my video drivers.

As I explained earlier, different brand drives use different lasers/firmware.

Some lasers/firmware can read data from a particular DVD better than another.

That doesn't mean it's better quality, it's just how they work.
