Hi... Something very odd is happening with my Witcher 2 game... I recently played it past the Kayran stage successfully without any problems, that is before my hardrive crashed and I had to start the game again.

This time after I got a new hardrive I installed the game with no problems at all and then I got to the Kayran Part and this time: (SPOILER WARNING)

For some reason the Kayran won't break down the building completely even after I cut off all 4 of the tentacles that I was supposed to... He just keeps sweeping me up onto one of the remaining two tentacles that cant be cut off and after I spam click to fall off, Sile keeps shouting that he is about to break free and this part keeps repeating itself the whole time... and having played this part before successfully I am well aware that the Kayran is supposed to break down the building so that I can climb up on the rubble and plant the bomb in him... but it doesnt go to that part at all and now I cant go further in the game!

I even went back and replayed everything from the Indecent Proposal level because I thought the trap had something to do with it and it still did that! So assuming it was a bug I have now reinstalled the whole game and really hope that this is the last time I have to replay this whole thing to that point, just not having any luck in advancing past Flotsam in this game....

All I want to know is has anyone else had this problem? I am now going to see if my re-installation of the game will make it work. Lots of cut scenes to skip through :(

Are you playing on easy? On any other difficulty than easy, you have to press the space bar to get off, not just left-click. It might be that you're playing on normal or hard and it keeps repeating because you're clicking instead of hitting the space bar.

That's the only thing I can think of, at least. If it's too much of a problem, you can always upload your save game so someone can get past that part for you.

it's on easy... I am doing the mission exactly like I did before, so I have reinstalled and hopefully it was just a bug... will see what happens and if it still doesnt work I will try the uploading... thanks Penguin :)

Damnit... I just played the whole game from scratch after re-istalling and it still does the same thing!!! I just dont get it... and now I dont know what to do, how am I ever gonna get past Flotsam now :( This didnt happen before on my old Hardrive it's only since I installed it on this hardrive, this is very strange... How would I go about uploading saved games? Maybe someone can check it out for me?

Check the multitude of posts about people having difficulty with the Kayran. You may find it is something as simple as lowering your resolution for that part. Many people had issues relating to their vidcards not being able to keep up...

So, before you pull all your hair out (whhaaat? You still have hair? Not me...) just dumb down all the graphics and lower the resolution and see how it goes.

Thanks Peetz, I have tried what you said, I lowered my GMMA down to 1, but still does the same thing... I wish I could take a video to show what is happening, but not sure how to do that... I just dont know what else to do anymore... I am out of ideas, someone suggested to me before that I can upload saved games to somewhere and maybe someone can get past that part for me and just maybe it will work again? This is so frustrating... I just dont get it.

Ummm... I didn't mean lowering your gamma (which is what I assume you mean by GMMA) - I meant to lower the video settings. Open the launcher and check "Show Advanced Options" so it gives you a multitude of video settings. Disable or put to low all settings (except use High Texture Downscaling). Then run at 1024X768 or whatever low setting fits your monitor (don't worry if it looks weird, you're going to change it back). On some PC's the game seems to dislike if your monitor resolution (your Windows desktop res) is different from the game resolution (set in the Launcher Options)...

Then try again. If it still is an issue for you, upload the save file to a public site (Fileshare, Sendthisfile, Megaupload...whatever) right before the fight and I'll pass it and return the file.

Same thing happened to me.
First time I had the settings at 800 x 600, low spec, easy setting and difficult qtes turned off. I had to only cut off three legs and then the qte began, really easy.

I started over at a normal because i wanted to do Ioverths path. Now I can not get past the Kayran. I dropped everything back to easy and no difficult qte's. I now have to cut all four tentacles off, then I get on the main tentacle and fill the qte bar with time to spare it knocks me off, the screen freezes then blinks and I start the qte over.

I have tried using the keyboard/mouse control and an xbox controller, no difference

Thats exactly what I am talking about... but on mine it doesnt even freeze.... it just keeps replaying it over and over...So setting all those options doesnt help then?

Nothing has helped. I've reloaded to an earlier part in the game and have done other quests. Started the kayran quest from fresh. Still does it.
Been doing this for two days. Feel like I'm in Groundhog Day.
I'm thinking of deleting the game and reloading the game fresh and reloading the patches.

Bad news :( I deleted the game completely, reinstalled with new patches and it still does it... I know how you feel I could cut the Kayrans tentacles off in my sleep ive tried so many times... maybe we should try the uploading the latest saved game and maybe it will work if someon passes it for us... then we can maybe move on with the game... at least I hope so... so I am gonna try.

Yeah, just upload the saves so other people can test if they work (and give you dead Kayran in return).

Go to My Documents on your C: drive, there will be afolder titled 'Witcher 2' (path should be: C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\Witcher 2)

Go to 'gamesaves' folder

Find the correct .sav file (each is accompanied by a screenshot in .bmp format, but you don't have to upload it, the save will work either way)

Go to mediafire.com and upload the file
