I'm not sure why the Steam Achievements aren't listed on the store page, but they should be in the game. I know if you go to GameFAQs and go under the Cheats section for this game they have all the Steam achievements listed. I can't say 100% for sure since I don't own the Steam version, but it should have achievements.

As for where to buy it from, well...if you're going the digital distribution route I'd always recommend GOG.com every single time. The money spent on the game will benefit the developers the most if purchased through this site (since they get most, if not all of the money directly). That being said the game IS on sale for $39.99 this week because of E3, and the one digital distributor that has it on sale is Steam. If you want a physical copy I believe Amazon and Gamestop are both selling it for $39.99 as well.

I was asking myself the same question. It isn't very logical for CD Project to give out Steam Keys, since as mentioned they would have to give them a cut.

Regardless I am curious, what are the perks of buying it through GOG? Somewhere there I read a free game. Do they track achievements whatsoever?

What videos did you get? I bought via Steam, and got papercraft (the full set) and videos (developer diaries).

Personally I wouldn't mind the Witcher games would be activated on my Steam account, but I can live without them being in my library. It would mainly be for convenience.

Note: I know you can add games to your library that are installed on your PC, but that's not the same.

However it won't happen, it's not worth it. If they would give us keys to redeem, most people would just sell the keys, thus depriving the developers of revenue.

I don't own the GoG version, I just saw it at friend's house (to compare with TW2CE - which has the same videos as Steam version, I think?). I vaguely remember GoG having some extra videos/developer diaries. It was quite a few months ago, sorry, I don't remember the details. I could be completely wrong on this one :(

& I think someone on the official forum mentioned that GoG has papercrafts that are not available elsewhere.

I think the story started because Steam didn't make the bonus material available until quite a while after the launch, but as far as I know, the material now is the same.

Just to make it clear though, I agree with everyone about "Buy from Gog". If I'd heard of them at the time, I would have done too. And I will for TW3. But the main reasons are
- to support the developer
- Steam screwed up the patches too often. I don't know who was to blame, maybe it was them, maybe it was CDPR, maybe it has finally been fixed, but as a customer it was a nightmare.
- Most of the standard Steam benefits, such as the overlay, don't work with this game, so shouldn't be a consideration. They may start working again later, but they may also break again later still. (It seems to change with every patch).

Achievements
That's the only reason (and a damn good reason) that makes me activate stuff on steam

Achievements, time tracked, inherent overlay support (with some minor UI changes depending on whether or not the devs decided something needed to change).

The big thing is it's all in one place for the most part. There's a lot of people that own a lot of games on Steam. Splitting up collections is a problem.

Well the last post is not THAT old :P

But now that you can redeem your keys on GOG, you can bet that they won't make Steam activation a possibility. I'm not surprised though, with this backup stunt they get a bunch of new users on GOG who will probably purchase other games as well. This way they also didn't cut out a chunk of their Steam sales. That doesn't mean I don't think every you buy you should be able to play on the system and service of your choice (maybe ask $5 to cover licensing fees on consoles etc.), but as long as CDPR and GOG continue with their mentality, I don't mind if they don't let us activate TW2 on Steam. (I have most of my PC games there as well)

That being said, I hate achievements, time tracking is nice and you can use the overlay if you add the game to Steam (click on + Add game... in the Library). Having all of your games in one place, one click away is good too.
