If you fully investigate the cave, report your findings, and let Malena lead everybody into an ambush, the map is confused showing an incorrect location. For moi, it didn't reset until I reached the harbor area.
I don't understand?

She led the two soldiers into an ambush before the quest. The quest is simply "What do you do with her"?
If you investigate and report your findings, she'll plead that there's something you need to see. You can either walk away and have her arrested then, or you can have the soldiers follow her lead, in which case you're ambushed by a small number of Scoi'atel.
As far as I know, she hides after the ambush and you're supposed to find her (thus her location will not be shown on the map - girl knows how to hide).
Yeah, she's a typical woman.

She thanks you for lying to save her butt, and then promises sexual favours if you meet her. Geralt gets his "hopes"up, only to have them dashed as he gets ambushed - and she runs off.

You'll find her later if you look around corners at places you will go to, to search for someone else...

No offense intended to the female gendered gamers here... LOL

Ah. I don't mean *quest marker*, I mean the marker that shows Geralt's current location. For instance, by the time I'm almost back at the harbor, the minimap claims I'm near the center of the town square.

I don't think she flees on Normal difficulty. Either that, or she only flees if you take too long to kill the ambushers, because both runs so far she's been arrested immediately thereafter and the quest is over.

It takes one to know one, I guess, I handed her ass over to the guards as soon as I saw arrows stuck in those men. I only read about what happens if you decide to lie for her :P

@lw2jgog
Ah, I didn't realise that. The map bugs out sometimes, happened to me a few times, too :/

Yes, luckily I don't follow the direction markers much, so I don't really notice when they bug out...

...And, being the typical male, I let her go the even after tracking her down after she had me ambushed - hoping that I would eventually get to taste her elven wares. Alas, it was never to be. Just another $200 for dinner and a show - for naught.
One question, you find her again in Chapter one?

See Post 6. Quest passed; she never ran, or if she did, it was so slowly or so nearby that she was immediately caught. And it's not about /her/ location, it's about Geralt's.

Can you be more specific? Find her after the Elf ambush? Yes you can.

I actually like hearing what choice people made in this quest. Someone on Steam forums was raging about CDPR "lying" about the promised "reward" instead of accepting the fact he made a poor choice. If you go around town, a lot of people (humans and elves alike) will tell you Malena is shady and not to be trusted.

Seems to be just the kind of gal Geralt goes for...

..and there are some obviously very young players on the Steam forum, so I can understand...

Don't know about the marker bug but if you say monsters killed them you can follow her alone to the waterfall whereafter she flees or if you say the elves did it and go with the soldiers to the ambush by your boat she doesn't.
