While in chapter 2, I got a notification I passed Suspect: Thorack , but when I got to chapter 3, it's now listed as failed.

Anyone else noticing quests passing, then failing later?

Actually the "failure" happens earlier and it's connected to your choice whether you accuse Stennins of poisoning or not. Personally, I think it's a game bug that it's getting marked as "failed" after it was marked "successful".

IT IS NOT A GAME BUGS.

ACCEPT IT AS IT IS.

THERE ARE SOME QUEST WHERE YOU ACCUSE THE WRONG MAN, OR LET THE REAL CRIMINAL DIES, OR COULDN'T MANAGE TO GET ALL THE CLUES IN TIMELY MANNER, YOU FAIL THAT QUEST.

IT IS A GOOD RPG THAT MAKES ALLOW A QUEST TO FAIL !!!!!

Your even-handed reasonableness has persuaded me!

No, but seriously. If it says "completed" and then changes to "failed," that's a bug. You can fail the quest on Roche's side with the soldier and the house based on choosing to believe the wrong person, so if this quest was marked failed simply because they chose to believe the wrong person, there's no reason it wouldn't say "failed" immediately after you choose. It's either a bug, or there's a serious inconsistency in the feedback.

Agreed. While playing on my initial run through the game I did not attempt the arm wrestling i think it started in the prologe maybe but i do remember "Bring it on Flotsam" as the primarly quest line in Flotsam. I totally blew off the quest line in both Flotsam and in act 2. Once i decided to move onto act 3 i got a completes and fails for that quest line, so i am not sure if it is a bug or is as intended.

Asai
ok...

I got Stennis arrested, not killed. I did not accuse him. ***EDIT: of poisoning, I did accuse him of attempted bribery***
I did kill Thorak and got his receipt
I didn't find the priest (what's his name)
At the point where I killed Thorak, solved the murder of the runemaster, and didn't get Stennis killed, I had a green checkmark, in chapter 2, but when I got to chapter 3, it was marked as a fail. I did not search for the priest because I had a green checkmark and thought the quest was completed.

The Wall Have Ears did not trigger.
Suspect:Thorak was the quest that was both passed and failed. I understand why The Walls Have Ears failed, because I never found the guy or even went looking for him, but Suspect:Thorak should have been either one or the other, but not both.

completely understandable.

The Wall have ears didn't trigger because you probably didn't talk to a peasant to sniffed out that Stennis was behind the plot.

Thorak was "passed and failed" as you only get only 1 clue. The wall have ears and the priest are the other. You know someone order him the poisoned cup. Probably the priest.

You let Stennis live. Obviously, he was the murderer.
aww :(

That's too bad, it means we're going to need a whole new set of kings for the Northern Kingdoms...or equivalent governance, anyway. I was hoping some political structure would remain intact.

It does appear to be a bug. I successfully completed both the Suspect Thorak and the Walls Have Ears and received green checks in the journal. They revert to fail/red checks at the completion of the Eternal Battle. The change occurs as soon as I wake up at Philipa's house. I haven't found a way to carry successful completions of those two quests into chapter 3.

Just out of curiosity, did you let Stennis live or did you let the mob kill him?
Scent of Incense was first marked as completed, then after advancing the main plot it turned into failed. I guess I wasn't doing it the proper way. So yeah, it does happen, not just for The Wall Have Ears.
failed implies that you did not take the quest to completion. but if you get a completion and get the experience for it, why would it then change to fail later on?

I can understand that certain quests have triggers. But to say you fail because you decide to let someone live negates the reasoning behind allowing adaptive story line. Do you fail if you decide to let Letho walk? The quest is to solve the disappearance of the dwarf, not exact vengence for said dwarf.

That said, one thing I noticed when it happened to me. I had failed to follow up on the quest. I think there was one or two people that I had to talk to. I think because you are able to bypass certain parts of quests, this can lead to getting the failed when the quest expires? It's possible you failed to pick up one of the glowing reds that signify quest items and that triggers it.

So it may be a bug, it may not, but it is annoying to think you've completed something only to be told you failed. Something similar can be seen with the Scent of Incense quest depending on your decisions.

That's my point, and why I asked to begin with. I don't mind failing quests if I've actually failed them, but it annoys me to think I've completed something one way or the other, and then have the status change later, after I can't do anything else about it.
Yes, all your fail are belong to us.
This has been discussed in detail before, and even though there is a very specific order in which you have to do things in several quests.

suspect thorack
walls have ears
baltimores dream

sometimes it still changes from completed to failed and therefore is a bug.
