To be able to start new DLC I guess I need to go through battlefield again -- "ghosts" - but when I arrive at "Exit from Vergen" I get transferred back to start position. Guess this is cause I'm at the end of chapter 2 and perhaps I will get another chance to start this DLC later on in the game?

Also Norton AV must be set to ignore "launcher" after patch 1.3 or it will be sent to quarantine...

Final - great game (!) and so I also liked the relatively hard challenge on normal - until the middle of chapter 2 but with Quen (even after patch) it seems too damn easy now - should I have patience for later challenges or change to hard? Never mind suppose that its possible to change back, whenever ---

note to dev: When speaking to Dethmold you are able to talk about the curse on the king even after it is solved, G saying he doesn't know the other artefacts and so forth - that broke the illusion a bit...

Pretty sure that's not possible, based on how far I'm assuming you are. They're not going to let you go through just to finish a small DLC quest, so if you weren't already going to go to the other side, the chance to complete the DLC is lost to you :(

That being said, I don't remember if it's possible to cross the mist again at some point. Never really tried, to be honest. Probably not if you're at the end of Chapter 2 and still unable to get through.

Yeah, past a certain point, you can't go back through the mist again. I don't know if you'll be able to access the new quest once the curse has been lifted, though - maybe wait until then and see if it works? Yes, some anti-virus programs seems to block the .exe files, and must be disabled before patching. Using Norton is usually bad idea to begin with. ;) (I switched to Avast! a year or two ago, and will never look back.) The game gets progressively easier as you progress (poor scaling), so if you're already finding it a bit too easy, it's a good idea to ramp up the difficulty to hard right away. This is the reason I started working on this mod, as I wanted the game to feel challenging and fun all the way through.

You're right of course, also with the camera and stuff in you view, lots of people have said that, too.

This may be too obvious a point, but just open up a prior save and complete the DLC quest. If you don't have a prior save, that would be a pain. However, if you do, just complete the quest and then go back to your current save and move on. The quest is short and rather cute but you don't get anything that will leave you tearing your hair out if you can't bring it through to the end game.

:) Yes but I'm kind of past that part of the game and want to move on - more a question about how developers handle such a release/patch - would have been smooth to be able, but on the other hand this is not an "open world" game... but storyline.

I was also past that part of the game. Well into the end game of my second run in fact. This quest is not key to the story line and is just a bit of fluff, so to speak. Go back and play it for a hack and slash and a ha ha. Nothing more, but I was amused.


A lot of games make you go back to previous saves in order to play the DLC. I don't think it's anything new. Mass Effect did that as well and so did Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I will bet that the Dragon Age 2 DLC will require popping back to an old save. I only played Awakenings for Dragon Age Origins which started after the end game, but I believe the other DLC required prior saves.

If you have only played the game once, I strongly suggest that you start again at the crossroads (Flotsam) save and play through again on the opposit line of quests. They are so different that I think you miss half the game if you don't play through twice. If you are in that boat, catch this new quest on the second run.

It's also true that most DLCs starts within the main game and you have to load an old save however I would like that to change - DLCs could make clarifications to the main story but I want to move on instead. Not a big issue but that's my opinion. Retracing is a bad thing... almost as bad as a save that doesn't work or you "didn't make". Bigger issue is that almost all DLCs are really bad - I cannot remember a single one beating the main game in reviews. That would be the day when a DLC will be remembered... :)

Its not that common though to add DLCs to patches but that is only a good thing :)

And yes, you do have to play the game (at least!) twice.

And what do you think, how many points EA would have charged for the 3 DLC's we've received until now? I know, they are cut out of the game just the same as the others do (how else are they fully voice acted?), but at least they're free. I'm curious, how many more patches we'll get. :D

DLC's that don't require you to go back will only be possible in open ended sandbox type games like Oblivion or if the DLC starts with a bit of a reboot, like DAO Awakening--especially where the game has a definite ending. I remember playing Fallout 3 and finishing it when the DLC came out. There was a lot of unhappy players who had deleted their games, luckily I was not one of them. Since that time, I notice most players are alive to the issue and keep their saves somewhere - just in case.

A lot of DLC will come out after early buyers have finished the game. Mass Effect 2 just put out their last DLC a few months ago.

It is the price we pay for being on the cutting edge. And talk about the price you pay -- DLC can be, hour for hour, very expensive. You can wait a year or so and get the complete editions of most games at reasonable prices -- if your patient.

I agree though that DLC is rarely as good as the original project - though Mass Effect 2's Lair of the Shadow Broker comes pretty damn close as did Awakening (a somewhat love it or hate it reception). The DLC can never be as deep as the original game, some voice actors may be unavailable which require work arounds and I suspect the junior team does the work. The DLC can also never be integral to the main story line. For all of these reasons, I would be surprised if any DLC will be as good or better than the main game. Awakening had a shot, but it was almost a mini game in and of itself and started after the main game ended. Quite unusual, actually.

That said, there is hope of sorts. DLC is becoming the new thing and more sophisticated gaming teams are no doubt incorporating DLC plans into the game design. With the added emphases and planning for DLC's we might get a few stellar examples. However, let's hope we don't start seeing pared down games with all of the extra's in DLC's. I know that it is happening to a smaller extent already.

While I am willing to take risks and pre-order games I know I will want, I often wait till I see the reviews before buying DLC and will pass on things that don't interest me.

"The stellar DLC" and how it should be created in my mind: They should use the final save, often called "XXX - finished game" in console world (not loadable into play). Depending on the data in this save; DLC should play out differently (RPG). A game with a definitive ending is no problem cause everything is possible in a fantasy world, even reviving dead chars if that is necessary...

Since no one is forced to buy DLC´s the only problem for me is that I want to believe that the creative part of every game company have created a world (talking RPG and adventure now) that they care for, deeply and it is kind of sad that this will be trashed in the coming DLCs (probably because of the financial dep.)....

However CDP might change this as they were the first to release an enhanced version of the first game that not only added the word - "enhanced" to the title...

EDIT: Anyone know how to change signs with third mouse button/wheel? Wont work for me.
