Hi, I am trying to install GOG patch but patcher fails with message: Error creating temporary file.

I have 15GB of free space and Windows XP.

Has anyone got a solution for this?

Have you checked if you got the right, version of the patch?. If your version of the witcher 2 is from Gog.com then youshould download the patch from your account library at Gog.com.

Yes. I downloaded it directly from my GOG account. Here is MD5 hash of Patcher_GOG.exe file: aa73fd3c191b261825b0567761563a7a
Mmm that is weird. I could try to send you my patch file which I installed succesfully on my gog.com version, although it would be later on as I got the night shift and Im at work.

Also it sounds like it could be a permission thing as it doesn't let you create a temporary folder, try login as administrator or to run it from a different folder or partition.

Thanks, I hope those patches are not personalized. You can check MD5 hach before sending.

I run it under XP and my user has admin rights. I checked with Process Monitor from Sysinternals and the only failed file access from PatcherGOG is to C:\Program Files\GOG.com\The Witcher 2\Activate.exe file. I have full rights to this file, I can actually modify it and it works. Process Monitor says CreateFile fails with ACCESS_DENIED result (it tries to open for read/write access).

I tried to delete Activate.exe. It allowed patcher to go through the whole process but it finished with message: Installed game version is invalid or incomplete.

I use Polish voiceovers, maybe it matters. Guess I have to try clean install.

I hope they are not, we both have the same version (from gog.com) so it should be ok.

Also I know it might sound dumb but check that you are not running the game ( not even splash screen) while trying to install the patch, has been happening a lot around here. ;-)

Will contact you later for the sending the file.

Got it working. Apparently my Comodo firewall blocked access to some files. After disabling firewall all worked OK.

Thanks for help.

Interesting, good that you figured that out.

I wonder how many would blame the game and CDP for problems caused by other applications/drivers.

If you've ever spent time as tech support (hell, I imagine in any customer service capacity), you'd know the answer to that. :p

I know! It was a rhetorical question. :P

Well, it's easier to blame others. :-) I suspected the problem is on my end of the stick because usually there are hundreds of posts if patch is bugged.

BTW I am marking your post as solution because apparently it's not possible to mark my own.
I don't know why my post is marked as solution because it isn't! :(

pacinpm figured that out himself. I have no credit.

Oh, I see. But I get Rep points I don't deserve. :)

Having the same issue... can you be a little more detailed in the solution? I can't see how my firewall is affecting it.

Some firewalls have additional features controlling access to files in Program Files folder. Comodo Firewall I am using have one. GOG patcher tried to modify some EXE files in Witcher folder and got blocked by Comodo. It depends on your firewall.
