custardcream: yes i play with a wireless 360 controller.

feels very good using it.
apart from no ui scaling on my 1080p tv, the game seems designed with controllers/future console ports in mind.

only thing i dont like is that the controller doesnt work correctly in the attributes screen. simple movement causes the selection icon to zip at a million miles an hour making selections impossible.
Yeah the attributes screen is...problematic.

I also came to another issue though - in dice poker there was no way to throw the dice with the gamepad, so the game was stuck there witn no way to get out. Was this just a one-time bug or has anyone else had problems with this?

I too had this problem with the attributes screen, otherwise the gamepad worked like a charm.

For dice, they are thrown by using the right joystick in any direction. Be careful not to toss them too hard directly left or right as you risk some die bouncing off of the board.
Can't you just press "Insert" to switch between KB+M & x360 controls. ;)
Something has gone wrong, My controller is not inverted anymore. Editing the ini file doesn't help either. I wonder what I have done wrong?
I actually tried for a bit to use a gamepad, since the damn UI is so obviously designed for consoles, but man. I just found control of Geralt to be so piss poor with a gamepad verse mouse and keyboard that I reverted after about an hour.

Then again, I personally find gamepads heaping pile of poo for shooters as well, so it's possible those who have developed the very fine motor control skills to utilize gamepads for shooters will find no control issues in a game like this. Mileage may vary and all that jazz.
I was using xbox360 controller and it was working better for me the the keyboard combo.

Now I can't play the look is not inverted I am used to the gampad controls now.
Hey, i got the issue that my Xbox360 controller (for windows) doesnt work properly with Witchers 2. I can only use arrow button and at the start i can cancel videos using A-Button, however ingame nothing works, its such a mess.

What did i do wrong or how to solve?

Yes my Xbox360 pad should be fully installed and properly working, else it wouldnt give any input at all, so the issue seems to be game related.
u have to chage something in the user.ini , it should be in your witcher 2 folder. Look for a line about Right Y Axis, switch the 1 to a -1
I'm using a third party (MadCatz) wred xbox controller. Win 7 64 bit picked it up perfectly. TW2 uses it as well. I'm enjoying this game with it.
I'm thinking about it :P but I'd have to live with the lower res on my HDTV.

Second playthrough from the couch!
I'm really enjoying my time playing the game with my X360 Controller so far. It fits with my style of play and the combat - I remember thinking it would fit perfectly for the The Witcher back in 2007.

One issue though, as people already have mentioned, is the sensitivity in the Character Attributes screen - it is completely messed up.

Some people have suggested the ability to use Mouse + Keyboard AND Gamepad at the same time, which I think is a great idea seeing it would ease the use of the inventory and character screens, etc.

i must have tried 10 times or more to switch with insert and it never worked , dont know where to check to see what key is bound to it i mean in the manual it says that people say that but when i try it wont do it's job
I've never been able to get 'insert' to work either... though I've seen it mentioned in a couple places.

Would certainly be a lot easier than going into the gameplay options, which is what I do now when I want to do some heavy inventory/character/alchemy work.

I had this issue as well, and I hope CDPROJEKT will fix this in the future.
I couldn't continue because I had no button Icons during the betting, and when that happens, the controller input isn't working either.
It's very annoying since the only thing you can do now, is kill the game with ctrl+alt+del.

gamekid: The X-box controller didn't help much until half way thru the starting story where they told me Button LB locked on to targets
Dag nabbit, I knew I was forgetting something.

As others have said, The Witcher 2 is a console game, ported first to the PC. You can especially see this with how the UI was designed.

That aside, playing with a XBox 360 controller is great. I get the feeling the devs took a LOT of time tweaking the controls to get things setup properly.

Using the Quick Selection Menu with a controller was a little awkward to start with coming from a completed The Witcher 1 play-through, I've now gotten used to it and really like it.

In short, I don't see myself using a keyboard/mouse for this game, even though I had no problems using mouse/keyboard for the first one.

Edit:

Ah, I just noticed that this was an older thread that was bumped. My thoughts still apply, although not as useful as they could have been.
