TigerLord: Newsflash: drug lords are rich, and you can be a millionaire by robbing banks.

NO FAIR!!!!!!
avatar
unrealeck: Terrible comparison.
How? These people are committing an illegal act by infringing on copyrights and stealing intellectual property. It's a felony.

My point is that life can be easier or better by committing illegal acts. Doesn't make it alright, doesn't make it fair. People need to STFU.
Well, I for one will be able to sleep tonight knowing I paid money to a great developer.
There are times when being a freelancer is not the greatest thing in the world. Then, there are days like this one, when you can smile knowing that you don't need to go to work tomorrow, but can stay at home and play Witcher 2... and get paid to do so.
didn't they hire legal lawyers or something????

Both are theft, both are breaking the law, but they are still not comparable. I'm sure you know why.
So what if they get to play it early? Pirates don't do a damn thing to keep the industry alive or help creativity flourish in what is fast becoming a very stagnate industry. Supporting CDProjekt Red and Gog.com financially and rewarding them for their hard work is the only thing that counts.

One is a Class A felony and the other is a Class C, but the principle is the same. Is it less grave to steal intellectual property than rob a bank?

Well of course it is!

But it is still illegal, even immoral. We've all done it at one point or another, be it a game, or a mp3, or software or a VCR your mom taped for you as a kid... that's not really the point. Some people are blaming CPR for not competing with felons, as if the fact they stole CPR's intellectual property means CPR should violate legal contractual agreements, licensing restrictions and probably countless territorial selling rights contracts to please those who find it unfair.

How is that not grave?
Organized Crime makes millions selling illegal CD/DVD's copies of Softwares, PCgames, Movies, TV series boxes, Music CD's and a whole lot more with Console games. That is piracy. They press their CD/DVD's in China and distribute it to street markets all over the world. They charge money for the lame copy and lots of retards pay. That is a lost sale for the legit owners because that guy will not buy the product again. Not for 100 Reais (PC game price in Brazil) or 200 Reais (Console game prices) when they pay 10 Reais for either one in the streets! Those are the guys that Interpol and local copyright authorities are after.

Free download is just a thing of our age in this planet and does not really harm anyone. It is not a lost sale. It is a "potential" sale lost and sometimes that guy will actually buy a legit copy after testing and falling in love for a game. Will prolly delete the files of crappy games! There used to be DEMO for games. Some people only pay for a game after testing a "DEMO" !

Meigod: But I think thats what the difference between a small dev team like CDP and say EA. A team like CDP or the stalker dev team who have little money push their talent to the limit to bring a game out which is playable, cutting edge, ambitious (in stalkers case a little to ambitious) and most of all has it own unreplicable destinct character. Where as EA will throught millions at a yearly repeat to make more millions. I'm not saying that CDP are'nt doing this to make a profit of course they are but the gamer gets his/her moneys worth in exchange.
I didn't know the stalker devs push their limit to bring a game which was playable, referring of course to the mass of bugs with Stalker 1 and 2. They cleaned up their act with Stalker 3 IIRC so I'll let them off :P
I'm just nit picking of course. Can't wait for Witcher 2 later on, if Witcher 1 is anything to go by it's going to be an amazing game and I will end up being a CDProject fanboy ^_^

Now I'll just continue with my witcher 1 saving before I start Witcher 2. I got it on steam for £3.75 or something but I realise that may be blasphemy around these parts :-)

Why would that be a blasphemy? I got it here on GoG for 5 bucks! (USD) and paired it with my Good ol' EE DVD edition!
Stop boohooing already. CDPR (or whoever) should’ve known better than to expect that the DRM they shoved down the throat of the retail customers would work. And they damn well should have told their publishers that. This whole debate has so gotten out of control. I mean calling filesharing “piracy” and thus comparing it to holdup murder? Really? What’s next? Some Nazi analogy?
I'm glad this game was "DRM Free", totally prevented this kind of BS.

Except it isn't.
And it didn't.

Oops.

P.S. Why is it that everyone insists on activation servers yet nobody actually prepares the computing capacity to handle the initial load? Launches DDoS'ing the servers is a well known happenstance and there's no excusable reason not to have fixed it by now.

Edit: "it" being server failures at launch.

Yeh i was going to comment on this its not DRM free because when its installed it activates itself online,so what if you want to install it on a pc without online ??.
I believe that it is difficult for many people living in Eastern Europe to get credit cards. That means that it is difficult for them to buy things online.

This causes a lot of piracy in music/film/games etc. because those people literally have no other way to access the media.
