I must say I am a bit disappointed with GOG.

No offcial answer to this thread.
No answer at all to my (two) support reports, not even an aknowledgement of having received them.


(Also, no answer in the witcher forum...)

A simple aknowledgment of the problem would be good.

If GOG support is so lousy I will reconsider buying more games from them. I thought they were different from the "pack"

I pretty sure GOG support deals with all other games except The Witcher 2 because TW2 is a new game. CDPR, GOG's sister company, is the one who deals with most/all technical problems for The Witcher 2 since they are still supporting the game. That said GOG support *can* be quite slow though they've gotten better recently. Posting in the forums here are when you want the user base to help you or a CDPR person to randomly see your thread which is more likely on The Witcher forums as evidenced by thread linked to above where a CDPR person has acknowledged the problem.

Sorry, but telling W7 users to run the game as administrator and then asking "Is it only happening on Windows 7?", as Majo_RED did in the witcher forum is not exactly acknowleding that there is a problem or implying they are working on it...

I disagree, I would say that is indeed acknowledging there is a problem and implying that they are working on it ... he is asking for basic OS data on who is having problems. Presumably they will follow up when they've narrowed down the issue or solved it. Also running the game as an admin did solve the problem for one user - though that may have been a lucky guess since it hasn't solved the issue for all users.

However, the support guy is in the thread and asking a question of people who have problems. If they never get back to the thread after this point or had they ignored the thread completely from the beginning, then that would be an indication that they are sweeping the problem under the rug. However, as of now support is engaging in the thread. At the very least, they are clearly aware of the issue.

I reported this to support and they contacted me about 4 days ago said they had not heard of the problem before and requested a dxdiag report.
I informed them of this thread and the witcher forum reports when I sent the dxdiag report about 3 days ago, not had any reply from support as yet

I reported this problem to support twice already, the first time on 29 September, with a dxdiag file and a pic of the error attached.
No contact or acknowledgement yet...

Disappointment groing...

Same issue. "Please insert disk ..." message, but when I press "continue", the program continues as it should. Nothing serious, in my mind - not for me, at least.
But if it's not a general thing, then it's probably hard to investigate, and I'm not surprised that a solution hasn't been found yet. Nor would I expect the developers or technical support guys to give this issue a very high priority, unless they've got nothing more important to do - after all, it doesn't prevent us from playing, does it?
My PC is AMD, Vista 32bit, ATI Card, by the way.

Although I agree with you and it is not detremental to the game it's also like collecting a brand new car after its first service and finding it now has an annoying rattle every time you use the starter, it wasn't there beforehand and now it's very annoyingly there. Apart from the new rattle everything seems to be working OK. Do you just accept it even though it may irritate you or, do you go back to the service company and request that try to get rid of it?
People on the forum and here mainly just find it irritating but, I believe there are also those concerned that perhaps one day the game may fail to boot because there is no disk present or perhaps they they are concerned that they may now have the retail Witcher DRM on their computers that they wished to avoid by purchasing through GOG.

Well...I've noticed that I rarely get this error when I have a disk in the drive. Usually, it's Oblivion GOTY. Without a disk in the drive, I get this error all the time. Besides, the launcher freezes unless I have an internet connection, so that's another problem I've been facing since V2.

Yes, this *is* an annoying problem, considering it never happened before V2. I really hope it's patched soon. Creating a desktop shortcut from the .exe file is a slight workaround, but then you get the disk request :(

I've got no virtual drives. I've got some removables but nothing virtual. Putting a CD in my BluRay drive does nothing.

I do have an SSD as the C drive and Witcher2 is installed on my D drive. The BD-Rom drive is E.

Fresh re-install of full 2.0 version of The Witcher 2.

Just wanted to say that I keep getting the error these days even with a disk in the drive. Until recently having something, anything, in the DVD drive let me off the hook.

The game's gotten wise, I think :/
