cloud8521: Jesus i hope you dont mind if i steal that picture its something i have been arguing forever. that's how it should be done! ... well with some UI scaleing and replacing
avatar
Licaon_Kter: DO IT! I've been posting it every occasion that I had.

And get another one: http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/4879/witcher212pov.png ( 'cause this is actually the easiest solution for CDP, an in game FOV control, although a Camera mode would be nice since it's already implemented ;) )
so its just a memory hack? not that hard for CDPR to do then, after that just move the UI around

It's a memory hack for us mortals that don't have engine source code access, for them is just another variable that they can add in USER.INI and in the Configurator.

Waltorious: You could poke around in the game's .ini file and see if you can manually set 1680x945, but I'm not sure if that will work. If you try it, make sure to NOT enter the game options menu again as that will overwrite any changes you made to the .ini.
Tried it, you get a window and you can't see everything.
In the meantime, even though it's annoying, you could run with v1.2 instead. It would fix the resolution at least, but you'd miss out on the new tweaks in v1.3. I got through most of the game on v1.2 though, and while the 1.3 tweaks are nice they're not essential to enjoy the game.
But you miss the new quest.

3DMaster: But you miss the new quest.
Yeah, that's the worst part. Of course, I was already past that part in the game before the 1.3 patch came out so it didn't matter to me, I'll just see that quest on my next playthrough. I can say that I still had a quite enjoyable time in Chapter 2 even without the extra quest.

These recent posts about the fanmade resolution fix are interesting... maybe someone will get that working with v1.3 and then you can use it to set the screen the way you want, and you'll still be able to get the new quest. Or maybe CDProjekt will fix it themselves. At the moment I don't know what to suggest other than using v1.2 though.

Aaden: Of course it still is native if you match the horizontal resolutions and keep the image unstretched.

Oh, sorry, I didn't know you couldn't choose from any resolution in the Options menu.
I'm almost sure you tried that already, but you never know: Is there an entry in the user.ini like fullscreen=0/1? Setting it to 1, your resolution to 1280x720 and not entering the options menu afterwards(! because it will overwrite your user.ini settings) might work.
Unfortunately, I'm not at home, don't have TW2 here and can't look at the user.ini myself - so, I'm basically guessing from what I'd expect to be in the file.

rocsen: You sure it's native? A monitor only has 1 native resolution. In my case it's 1280x1024. Anything other than that is not native.
Well, yes - in a way. The thing about the native resolution is that every pixel of the picture exactly matches one pixel of the display - thus the image is sharp and clear, the display doesn't have to interpolate. When using a resolution like 1280x720 on your 1280x1024 display, it's not exactly what you call 'native', but the effect is the same, just that some parts of the display remain dark. But the important criteria is fulfilled: The number of pixels is matched, the image crisp and not interpolated.

MichiGen: For haters: What do you expect from an archaic 4:3 monitors? There was a reason for creating a widescreen monitors.... Don't expect that you will see the same content on the smaller LCD with absolutely different aspect ratio. It's impossible, unless you don't want to have the image deformed.

I just read this http://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-witcher-2-patch-1-3-aspect-ratio-fix-is-not-what-youd-expect/ , full of hate and stupidity...

The 4:3 aspect ratio in the Witcher 2 is correct. It's no FOV hack or any other shit....

Witcher 2 - 16:10 vs 4:3

Witcher 1 - 16:10 vs 4:3

http://y11.img-up.net/?up=4sg6qge.jpg

See? Witcher 1 also had different visibility on different aspect ratios and it was ok. So why it's not OK now? I can't understand the stupid whining about everything from some whiners in discussions.

This is a correct way how to play The Witcher 2 in fullscreen aspect ratio 4:3
http://f74.img-up.net/?up=2h7m2z6.jpg

This is a correct way how to play The Witcher 2 with black bars in aspect ratio 4:3 but with widescreen visibility.
http://n94.img-up.net/?up=1barsh7a4a.jpg

And this is what will happen if you want both the visibility and fullscreen on 4:3 monitor.

I'm actually glad you posted this. Can you see how MASSIVE Geralt looks on the 4:3 aspect? This is a simple fix for CDPR! I say it again, zoom the camera out so Geralt is the same size as in 16:9. This will massively increase FOV

Does this make sense?

I also wouldn't call them haters. Just because they can see a sellotape job from the real deal doesn't make them haters. I'm sure we all agree 4:3 will lose horizontal FOV but it's the way they did it that bothers me.

You are right, he is massive. He was also massive in Witcher 1 with 4:3 aspect ratio, but in The Witcher 2 he is in the center of the screen not on the left or right side. I agree that zooming out will make the field of view wider and better. Maybe mouse wheel zoom in / zoom out support in the next patch? :D

about the zoom, did it zoom out on combat-stance in patch 1.2 or earlier, as i don't recall this? it does in patch 1.3 ( helps a bit 4:3 and 5:4 ) yet it's not consistent since the whole zoom in/zoom out thing is out of my control so is pretty unnerving

btw, to be consistent:

It zoomed out during combat before patch 1.3. It wasn't entirely consistent feeling then either, but there's probably some deterministic way it does it, maybe more than camera collision detection or maybe not.
