popular swedish game-site FZ gave it 5 out of 5
http://www.fz.se/artiklar/spel/20110518/the-witcher-2-assassins-of-kings

for those who don't speak swedish, the reviewer gives TW2 credit for the story, the graphics, the "well-written and smart dialouges" and the open-ended gameplay

negative comments are made about in-game profanity and sporadic AI-fails.

5 out of 5 is a really good review (duh), the only other game I saw with a 5/5 this year (as well as last) was Portal 2.
RockPaperShotgun have posted a review of The Witcher 2. They don't post scores, but if you read it you'll see it's very positive.

Quotes from the rev:
"This is one of the most significant games of 2011. Right now it looks like most significant PC-only game of 2011."

"The Witcher 2 is a collossal beast in terms of vision and complexity, and it has engrossed me for the past few days. It’s shorter than the original by some measure, but it is burning half as long to be twice as bright."

"It’s the kind of beautiful where you find yourself gazing over particular details, a stoned smile on your face."

"I will recommend everyone buy it, because I want to play another one. And another one. And many more after that."

"Well done, CD Projekt, you’ve just brought the fantasy RPG back to life. It’s still twitching from the electricity, but it’s a beautiful thing."

Such high praise from RPS is extremely good.
Awesome work CDPR.
Can't wait to get properly immersed this weekend.
PC Gamer got their review of The Witcher 2 here

"Last minute collapse onto its own silver sword aside, this is one of the most impressive RPGs you'll ever play"

89% - just barely shy of the Editor's Choice award.

I don't know if this is the same review that is mentioned at the start of this thread. If it is; oops, sorry!

PCGamer just crapped all over themselves with this. For them Dragon Age 2 is better, Crysis 2 is better, CoD is better... all console ports done badly... and that from a organisation called PC Gamer...
And the reviewer played the game on EASY ... and complains that he didnt like the combat... lol What a fkn joke of a reviewer.

*shrugs*

To each his own. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if we don't agree with them. Personally, I have not played to the end yet, but what I have seen so far has been absolutely stellar for the most part. But again, it is a matter of taste. :)
The fact a reviewer could give DA2 a 94 and TW2 an 89 is incredible to me. Maybe I am playing different games here, but I enjoyed the first act of TW2 more than all of DA2.

I'm waiting for gamespot's review. They at least gave DA2 an 80 which is close to what it deserved. I trust gamespot will give TW2 a 90+ review.

I hope you're right, but they tend to give lower ratings to harder games (see: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn).

But here's hoping they don't pull that again.

I think they'll like it. They gave 7.5 on the first Witcher (and 8.5 on the Enhanced Edition. Their main complaint was the badly translated script and the buggy state of the game (not to mention LONG loading times, which were all corrected in the Enhanced Edition))
While it's unreasonable to give a shitty game like DA2 94 %, at least the reviewer on Pc Gamer explains WHY he gives TW2 a score of 89 instead of a 90+.
And let's not forget that 89 out of 100 is still a darn good score!

The biggest problem with PC Gamer is that they only have one person review the game, and it seems like it is chosen at random. The person who reviewed TW2 was Richard Cobbett, while the person who reviewed DA2 was Rich McCormick. But I do agree with you that TW2 is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than DA2.
