The Swordsmanship ability to parry blows from all directions, is this something the player must interact with or is it automatic, acting on its own randomly during combat ?

I'm pretty sure all this means is you can press "E" to block no matter the direction of the incoming blow. There is no auto parry or block in this game.
So if you would "normally" block an attack, do some enemies get knocked back losing there balance leaving then open for attack or would most enemies just continue attacking ?
Here's how it works:

Without the ability: You can parry only attacks from enemies in front of you. Attacks made from behind will hit and damage you regardless.

With the ability: You can parry attacks from any direction.

It's not some. It's any enemy you block. There are, obviously, some attacks you simply can't block though.
