Same issue here..

Asus Xonar D2X, no sound at all.
G35 user.

No sound with The Witcher 2.
G35 user as well. No ability to change to 5.1 either. I had to "upgrade" my driver to basic USB 2D audio. I guess this will have to do for now. =(
To solve the problem, install "Virtual Audio Cable". In windows options put the audiogadget named "Line 1" as standard. Start the "audiorepeater" (can be found in the VAC folder) and set Wave In to "Line 1" and Wave Out to your headset. choose the option "7.1" in the same window and start the game - have fun

sorry if there are some mistakes. its only schoolenglish :)
VAC is a ok fix but dosnt handle alot of sound/music all going at once very well. It'll crackle and stutter quite abit.

Argh this is so fubar. I aint about to install some default windows audio device for my G35 and ruin everythign else just for TW2. Gues ill invest in a new sound card tomorrow. =/
I wish they'd give us a real fix for that one. For the moment I'm just glad this machine has a sound card. I've turned that back on and I'm using a pair of cheap earbuds :P
It'd be lovely to be able to play this game in surround with a headset... :/
It's be lovely to play the game with any sound >_>
FWIW, I had a no-audio issue when I stated, using my ASUS card. Disabling the 7.1 Dolby in the Audio control center (and moving from the FP jacks to the card jacks, but I don't think that was relevant) resolved the issue.

No help for people with the USB headsets, but hopefully it helps someone.
This seems to be all headphones that have an ' onboard sound card ' , something along those lines. My Wireless G930 has the same issues.
I too have a G35. I have the on board sound card disabled, because my neighbors wouldn't like it when I played in the middle of the night. That means that I don't have any other option than buying new headphones.

It also seems a problem not related to the G35. Other similar headphones have the same problem and what I can see some sound cards too.

That is *not* acceptable.

I am also one of those people with the "wrong" aspect ratio. So, I bought a new monitor.

And now this.

Whether the moderators like it or not, they shouldn't post workarounds in the sticky thread in wording that suggest that these do work and/or are acceptable fixes. These do not work and/or are not acceptable fixes.

It's beyond me that no official reply has been given yet. Is it a coincidence that the official forums are closed down? Maybe. But it sure is convenient for CDPR. My respect for the company dropped significantly. One would think that they have learned from the TW1. Apparently not.

@MadIce

CEO of CDP RED have said the issue with G35 is being worked on but would not make it with the next patch.

Comment can be found here (link below) if you can be bothered to search for it (question made by moi), quite a long long way down:

Even devs reply to questions!:

So you either go with the temp fixes, get a new sound card or wait for the patch after the patch. Thats sadly the way things are. I also own a G35, and yes it is quite annoying. =/

Thanks for the heads up. And no, it doesn't make me any happier. I have already ordered the new sound solution yesterday. It will arrive today. And I have also bought a new monitor. I am looking at it right now. I can't be bothered to defend the company anymore.

I saw that thingy on the home page. It required me to register to a third party web service. I am not willing to do that. Especially because I already have two accounts: One for TW1 and one for TW2. A third one to contact them or to read what they have to say is stretching my patience.

This is how I am starting to feel. Game was working fine up until last night. When I restarted this morning...no dialogue sound in 5.1. Sound works fine in sterero but that sux. It is frustrating that it just stopped working. Between this and the framerate issues in indoor scenes the game is basically unplayable. I am becoming really disillusioned with CDPR. I really loved TW1 and I really want to love this game but it is very difficult so far.

edit: in an effort to be constructive in case any CDPR devs read this, my sound is through a realtek hd audio. Driver 6.0.1.6196. Despite what I wrote above, I have worked out that windows updated itself when I shut down last night, ie before the problem started. Update was KB2533552. OS is Win 7 Ultimate.

Have you rolled back the updated sound driver to before the update.
