USB Headphone/Speaker always prone to driver problem with certain programs and games.

vohk: Possible workaround: the problem seems to be with 7.1 audio. My HS1s will output stereo right up to 5.1 just fine in game, but nothing on 7.1. If your headset drivers give you the option, might be worth a shot.
That sure did it, thank you!
Xonar DX, 5.1 speakers and no sound. Doesn't work on my non-usb headphones either.
Asus Xonar DS, also not getting any sounds.
Logitech G35. No sound either. :(
Changed all my settings to 5.1 and it now works!!
All dramas are gone..xf's.. its now time to play..

Same sound card, on Sennheiser PC 350 headphones (analog, not USB) and no sound...

EDIT: Well that's a dumb fix. Turned off 8 channel audio down to 6 or 2 channel in the DX audio panel and it works.

Thanks for saving me some time! I was working my way through the control panel. I can confirm setting channels to lower than 8 gets sound working.
Tried disabling the surround on my G35 headset and that didn't work. Drivers were updated as well and still got no sound (both with and without surround).

However, you can still get sound through the G35 headset, all you have to do is uninstall the drivers. To do this in Windows 7, go to the control panel, find programs and features, and then in the list of programs find 'Logitech G35' and uninstall that.

At least you'll get sound on your G35 after that. Which is great if you're like me and want to play Witcher 2 and don't have any other alternative. This still needs to be fixed though. I don't like the idea that I just had to uninstall my drivers in order to play this one game. :(

I'd tell you to complain to Logitech, but there's a thread on their forums asking why the headset isn't capable of downscaling to 5.1 or even stereo (as opposed to emulating stereo as it currently does). The Logitech response, if you read the thread, clearly shows a complete lack of understanding the issue. There's a fairly long list of games that the headset does not work with because of that.

They didn't understand or respond when Crysis or Crysis 2 was released (as an example of a big time PC game franchise), and still keep mumbling that flipping the switch makes it stereo when it absolutely DOESN'T. The sound is always 7.1, but setting the headset to stereo simply emulates stereo while still using 7.1 sound (as opposed to, you know, actually setting it to stereo). How a purported gaming company is incapable of understanding the difference (which is important, because they honestly sound like they think we're all idiots for thinking their headset doesn't work) blew my mind then and continues to blow my mind today. Reading that one Logitech rep constantly claim that 7.1 = 5.1 so there's no need for 5.1 support also just makes me go /facepalm. You should see the rage from consumers at how utterly stupid the Logitech reps are in those threads. :p

Luckily, I long ago realized the benefits of an expensive pair of headphones coupled to a real sound card (after the first time I used a pair of Sennheiser's, it ruined me to want to tear my brains out using normal or "gaming" headsets :p ). These days the G35 only comes out when I am absolutely forced to talk to people while playing video games. Or for Skype. :p

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, in the long run, you should look to buy a new headset. Logitech hasn't shown an ounce of recognition of the issue and the list of games that will not work with it will only get longer as time goes on. There are plenty of other "gaming" headsets, if you insist on using one, that do support downscaling (in fact, virtually all of them really other than Logitech).
Same here with no sound on G35. I made a post in the Logitech forums. Switched to my 360 headset. Anyone finding the sound mixing to be a bit off in the game? Hard to hear dialogue sometimes during the more combative moments.
Yeah its something i've been looking at for a while now but never got around to having the spare cash to justify on a new set giving outside of these rare but admittingly annoying instances of failure.

For now I have some crappy stereo speakers getting me by.
Wow, what a bummer! I have the G35 as well. I'm not looking forward to getting home and having to use my crappy stereo speakers! What the hell man?
Another G35 user here, and no sound. Anything from the staff would help.
