Argh, it's incredibly annoying, I'm with you on this.
I'm in my second playthrough, this time taking the Iorveth path, really hoping I don't have to fight this guy anyway.
I know what you mean. Fortunately I killed him on the 2nd try though.
The first time I met that fella, I was quite annoyed too.

Now that I have cooled down, I wonder. Every other part of the game has really appropriate Auto Save. You could practically get through the game relying on it. So, I kinda wonder if they did it as a sick joke.
I don't get it. Why didn't the devs put an autosave right before the draug. I am on my second take now, have no idea how to kill him and I'll just get info on the internet now because I have no intention on doing the first part over and over until I figured out the proper strategy.

WTF, CD Projekt?

Too bad there isn't an invulnerabilty cheat... I want to have fun, not to be annoyed by doing the same boring and easy stuff over and over because devs were too lazy to put a proper autosave.

Although I agree that it would be an ideal place for an autosave point ...

I really want to disable autosaves altogether.
I either play insane, in which case autosaves are useless, or I'll make do with manual saves, since I'm a "happy to play insane" player so I rarely die even when I'm being reckless.
Quen, wait for him to charge, dodge and hit him in the back with heavy attacks. For some reason,as you are hitting him,Geralt is moving to his front side.Just reposition yourself from time to time and you could do it in one go.I managed to do it in my second playthrough.

Sucks having chosen alchemy path. It's so terrible in boss fights. If I could use potions, at least I wouldn't run out of energy so fast.

Boss is too hard and I am sick of trying. Awesome.

edit: Can someone send me a savefile of the fight right after draug + roche path?

I agree it's pretty frustrating having to replay the entire previous battle, after getting killed by the Draug. It got on my nerves too the first playthrough (magic build).

Second playthrough, I killed him within a minute, first try. It's all about the strategy.
I just dropped the difficulty to easy :P. Got sick of it after 3 tries.

Good idea! Gonna try it now too...

edit: even on easy this passage sucks big time. autotargetting fails so much when playing silkvart or whatever his name was.
Made it now on easy. This boss battle was nothing else than a hassle and big timewaste.0/10 for that.

Interestingly enough I killed him on my second try going straight onto him and hacking away with sword. Go figure...
Yes, this was a problem.

I thought it would be more epic, but all you do is (1) take away his armor, (2) kill him. It's a really quick fight, which could explain (but doesn't excuse) the missing autosave.
Compared to other boss fights the draug is easy. He's really no more difficult than a bullvore. He charges, slash him in the back 3-4 times then roll away. His cowardly trebuchet/archer attacks are tricky, but just throw up quen when he does that.

You can also Aard/slash combo him to death pretty quickly. Honestly on Hard the fights leading up to the Draug are much more difficult. Seltkirk is a wimp compared to Geralt.

There is a God Mode mod.
