I'm getting a very annoying graphical bug where shadows include a veil of tiny black dots that looks like I'm looking at things through flywire. Changing the shadows quality in the launcher doesn't change it. I can't find any option to turn shadows off entirely. Is there anything I can do to make it stop doing this? The visible pixellation is very jarring.

Not a bug, but intended design. While it's not as horrible as in GTA IV, I agree they could have handled it better.

Because thats how this type of shadow method works. Don't think it'd be fixable without decreasing performance.

Yes, it's that kind of shadow. It was waaay worse in GTA IV, though. Here, the dots are smaller and less disturbing. It still irks me now and then but nowhere near as bad as in GTA IV.

I'd be hapy to decrease performance, I've got more than enough computer. Or even disable shadows completely. The current method is very, very ugly.

It's called dithering..but yes it SUCKS in this game.

The prologue it is hardly noticed..but once you get to Chapter 1, Flotsam especially..you notice it DRAMATICALLY. Because the entire town is under shadow of the forest.

It makes the game look horrible. They REALLY need to fix this one...

I really can't believe they would have intended this... why have "ultra" quality settings and 'Ubersampling' options if you're going to have everything draped over with a horrible dithering effect?

I really hope this is something they fix soon... its very distracting.

If you're not using ubersampling, go to my documents/witcher 2/config and open up the user ini file.

Change UberSampling=0 to UberSampling=1

Might work, might not, but it worked for me and a number of people I've suggested this to.

This also has the nice bonus of (I think) not being as hard a performance hit as turning on Ubersampling in the menu. That defaults it to 2 instead of 1, correct?

Other solution, with no performance hit: in the user.ini set AllowSharpen=0. The game sets this to 1 automaticly when you switch on AA to make up for some bluriness caused by the edge smoothing. This sharpening process is pretty crude though and really makes shadow dithering very noticeable.

I can only speak for myself but it worked nicely and others have reported the same...
