I clicked to download English subtitles and text under downloadable content and it just keeps flashing "Error writing file. Retrying in 10 seconds" every 10 secs. Is there a way to cancel downloading it, or to fix it so it downloads?
First try closing the launcher and running the patcher.exe in the install directory. If that doesn't fix it, there's a registry edit you can do that should, but try running the patcher first.

Also, the English subtitles and text are already installed. Yes, it's silly that they show up under the DLC window.

patcher didn't work, I worry about editing the registry maybe I should just reinstall the game?

If you don't want to edit the registry, then yes, uninstall and reinstall would seem like your next option. Remember, the English subtitles/voices are already installed, so don't select them next time. :)

I actually knew they were in the game before I clicked to download but I wanted to see if the download server is up because I didn't see the patch that was listed on witcher.com Oh well thanks for your help :)
Hello there.
Sorry for the reuse of the thread but i got the same problem.
I even uninstalled the game completely (kept the saves of course) and it simply does not cancel the downloads and keeps erroring.
