This game has incredible detail.
I find myself just looking at walls, columns, etc just to look at the mesh detail. Little things like carvings on door frames that are actually part of the mesh and not just bump maps.
It is a stunning achievement on all levels. Not perfect (no game is), but I would not hesitate to give 10/10, were I reviewing it.

I pray to all mighty spaghetti monster that it will sell well on PC.
I think it's GOTY, unless something comes to top it. That would have to be one hell of a game, too.

Really wish it is, but being a super niche game that it is I find it hard for any mainstream award giver to give it GOTY. Worst of all it's a PC exclusive. This game comes out the same day as LA noire and only a tiny fraction of video game site, most popular ones include, review it on the launch day. Most sites review it 4 days later.

Also we have yet to see ES5: Skyrim, however if they pull of another oblivion WC2 will no doubt be the best RPG of this year. However if they manage to get the spirit of Morrowind back, then it will be an even fight.
I'd be more inclined to agree if the game didn't abort the story in the final bits. As it stands, I think Portal 2 and LA Noire are better.
Well there's a lot of entities that award GOTY. Some seperate them into categories by platform, some by genre, some by both.

I'd be unable to compare it to LA Noire or Portal2, as I'll never play those games. As for the RPG genre, and Skyrim, we'll see.
Don't know about the awards sites, but it's almost definitely my RPG and Game of the Year. Skryium -- the only competition to me -- looks good but judging by all of the trailers I've looked at (waiting to play that one, too), it doesn't raise the bar like TW 2 does. Skyrium looks awesome, TW 2 is gorgeous but also revolutionary IMO.

Yeah I only mean RPG category. As far as I am concerned this year Withcer 2 is probably the best PC release, and best RPG thus far.
certainly the best RPG looks wise ive seen even if they do use orrable motion blur (turned it off made me feel ill). now i just need a RPG that looks like this but has the epic scale of shadow of amns

For me this game raised the bar i almost every aspect. It does have some problems, mainly with the user interface which reeks of console crap but other than that it is a masterpiece.

If they manage to fix the UI and some minor problems which I will not mention here because other have done so already in other threads, we are looking not only for a GOTY but a best RPG overall among other classics.

soot00: I never finished Witcher 1 either. The graphics and gameplay was meh. I also didn't like the environment bouncing up and down as the witcher moving as it was giving me a headache, lol

Witcher 2 however just feels right.....graphics, gameplay, story...everything just feels right, best action RPG ever made. Production value is so high....
I think it depends on what generation machine you played Witcher_1. My subsequental playthru on my latest homebuilt was far superior to the original. AT the time though it was second to Oblivion for me!! I replayed TW1(FCR) many times, Oblivion only half-heartedly once and never finished some of the expansions although I replayed most of the excellent mods for it!! Each is Own.. Glad your enjoying this go-around.

The bobbing head I never noticed, guess It was dependent upon which camera mode you used...there were three if you remember...wish this one had that!!

I'm not sure I understand your point...Portal 2 and LA Noire have better endings so should be GOTY?? I thought GOTY was varied according to the platform or genre? Will a ps3 LA Noire game be GOTY for PC also...I'm confused!!

Skyrim would be elgible for Game of the Month at the time of its release!! I hope it is!! Cause after TW2 it would be Uber Awesome!!

No, no. I'm just saying that all three games are awesome, but Portal 2 and LA Noire have the benefit of not completely screwing up the ending. While The Witcher 2 is a fantastic RPG, it has the worst ending of any story-based game I've ever played.

And no, I wasn't suggesting LA Noire get PC Game of the Year.

I didn't see the ending yet, but obviously you didn't play Fable 2...lol
I just finished the game and I din't think the ending was bad at all, what was your criticisms of it?
