Does anyone know what I should do when I get this bug? I haven't had problems with the game until now (except two random crashes). I haven't played it for a week or so and I was in Act 3 just about to finish the gargoyle quest and then the game, but now when I try to launch it, the following message appears: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click ok to close the application" Will a reinstall fix this?

I've been having trouble with every menu, or everything with a scroll. sliding to the right or down.

Actually since then I've found the same problem with other games. It has something to do with using the touchpad to scroll down instead of pressing the buttons, which is what I do now.

I've been getting the same problem. For whatever reason, I'm suddenly dumped onto the desktop.

You should have had a mutagen drop from the enemies immediately before this tutorial page. If you search the bodies you should have one. I broke this myself by applying the mutagen (or was it upgrading the character using the talent?) out of sequence, meaning that after doing the other one I didn't have the required component left.

(i.e. it is pick up mutagen>(tutorial:mutagen)>apply mutagen, and level up>(tutorial:level)>use talent... and if you do it so that the current tutorial item is active while the later one is 'done' it will never complete... seems to have been my fault though so I didn't grumble... I also figured that I "got" the process and no longer needed the tutorials at that point ;) )

I know it is not a bug, but the Kayran tentacle QTE is a common source of frustration for players, CD PROJEKT should fix that soon.

Finally played this game for the first time, but when it started up, the audio had a bit of static during the opening with all the company names on screen. After that, the following cutscene's audio with the archer seems to not be in sync with the video as the sound effects are heard before the targets are being launched and hit with the arrows.

EDIT: Okay, changed the screen resolution settings to about half of what it was by default and both sound problems were fixed, though when I did change them at first the launcher wouldn't start the game and I had to relaunch the launcher and try again to get it to work.

New glitch, does the background get replaced by an ugly bright blue sky for anyone else if you save at the beginning of At the Fore and load that save? (the middle choice Geralt gets at the beginning of the game)

can't get game launch keep getting error (0x0000142) really peeved. Any help or suggestions welcome running on a 64bit machine with windows 7.

I had the same issue and got help from support. The official Witcher pages have a hotfix for this problem, which seems to be an issue with .NET Framework 4. You can find it and other solutions here:

I'm not sure if this counts as a "bug", but I've noticed that on harder difficulty settings, the fist fights suddenly becoming so long! Just in the first one by the scaffold in Flotsam, it took a good 10 full minutes to get through it! Now I know there would be a lot of questions and suggestions about 'hitting the keys in time' or 'turning off hard QTE's' etc. But I'm not struggling to win these things - in fact it's blindingly easy, my only complaint is that it is taking TOO DAMN LONG!!!
Is there anyway to fix this?? A mod, and edit a cheat? Something!!! I don't want to change the difficulty level, because I find the lower settings a bit boring as far as combat goes and I also don't want to lose my Dark armors and weapons.

Bugs I've encountered.

1. CTD (Seems to happen when an event is triggered)
2. When Geralt finishes an enemy. He gets warped to another locations killing that enemy there and then warps back to hte correct location.
3. Movement keys stops responding.

Now, in the latest version (and last, i trust), i encounter some problems. That either were new ones, or simply not reported/treated.

1) When you try to craft the +5% damage oil, instead of it, a Healing Brew (the useless prologue pot) is created.
2) If you import a saved game, (while having DLCs from options on) and first go through tutorial, upon entering the prologue shortly afterwards, the items that you SHOULD carry, are either incorrect in number (1 oil of each type for example instead of 4x, 1 whetstone instead of the 10x), or absent altogether. If you import your saved game, though, skip the tutorial and enter game normally, you carry all of them correctly.
3) Your imported Silver Sword. Now, it is always lost, and in its place, you receive a generic Witcher's Silver Sword. All remedies suggested to keep your imported one in its stead, are hapless and fruitless. Entirely.

I currently have an issue where combat with humans is broken. Everyone goes down in one hit and I can't be hit by them at all. Even if I stand completely still with no weapons out I get 'hit for minimal damage'

Another issue I'm having is in Loc Muinne I'm supposed to be captured by the guards and taken to Philippa Eilhart's dungeon but every guard I encounter just attacks me on sight.
